This Fitness Trend is presented by Orangetheory FitnessNewtown, a new gym fitness studio featuring energizing group personal training sessions, praised by the New York Times as a “plateau-busting workout.” Orangetheory helps customers members achieve the best shape of their lives through 60-minute workouts broken into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training. A 5-zone heart monitor helps participants burn an average of 900 calories per 60-minute training session and achieve EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption), which keeps their bodies burning more calories even after the work out is over!
The workout that is sweeping the nation opened in Newtown on July 31st next to the Newtown Farmer’s Market at 2140 South Eagle Road (in the Village of Newtown South shopping center). Call the studio directly at 215-957-1700 to reserve your spot.
We live in a world of ever – changing technology and trends. Some electronic devices are here today and gone tomorrow, while others are simply improved upon. Health trends change with the wind it seems, too. One day a doctor will tell you that bacon is good for you and the next day, it will kill you. So what is going on with the wearables and how do we live healthy in today’s world?
Wearables. Are they a fad, trend or will they be around for a while? Is the end nearing or will there be a rebirth…a wearables 2.0 if you will? Here is how the story seems to play out for most of us: You go out and buy a brand new FuelBand, JawBone, Fitbit or whichever wearables captures your fancy and then you begin rigorously tracking your steps and even your sleep for two or three weeks. Once you determine what your averages are, you get bored with the process and just toss it in a drawer. Sound familiar? Many people are of the opinion that today’s wearables just don’t give us the right type of information that will generate a long term interest. However, we may still be quite a distance from the type of technology that will automatically be able to calculate the amount of calories as we consume them in real time. What do you think about it? Is this technology on the decline or will the iWatch breathe new life into it?
Along with wearables, there is also steaming technology to be considered. The traditional options of attending a fitness class as a part of a group, hiring a personal trainer or trying to stay motivated while working out alone now have an alternative that is incredibly welcome…streaming classes such as Orange Theory Fitness. While fields such as barre and yoga have been doing this for a while now, bigger players are beginning to step up to the plate and make the streaming fitness classes more mainstream as well as more interesting. The thing about wearables is that when they are used in conjunction with this type of working out – or indeed any type of exercise or fitness activities – they are useful tools for those who will have the tenacity to stick with them and remember to keep them charged.
Healthy living is actually a counterculture in today’s world. People are forever becoming more concerned about exercise and nutrition and yet most of America is still overweight and even obese! Part of this could be because becoming and remaining healthy can be expensive, inconvenient and downright hard. We hear buzz words like gluten free, organic and high protein all the time, but how readily available and affordable is food with those qualities? How easy or hard is it to walk into a restaurant – any restaurant – and order a meal that is both nutritional and unprocessed?
The healthy living movement is becoming stronger and as a result many major brands and retailers are paying attention. They are rebranding and this is helpful in the process of making healthy living more mainstream in America today. They know that consumers who are striving to live healthy are paying close attention to what goes into their bodies as they also look for innovative ways to live a healthier life.
