The story brings its audience through various locations in Bucks County that make the nature of this film that much more vivid. The footage of the birthday party for 25 year old Will seems to hit home, as the audience finds that the antics that he and his friends get involved with are eerily similar to our own weekend behavior. While we learn more about the victims through the home movie, our FBI interviews with the lone survivor tie the story together. Still in shock about what has just happened the previous night, our only witness left struggles to describe to the authorities the nature of the attacks and the attacker.
Setting the table for the rest of the film, the “last one left” describes the mayhem through her own eyes; waiting under the bed for hours, hearing the disparate screams of her closest friends and the relentless aggression of an attacker without any other motive than to kill for the sake of killing. Suspending the audience in disbelief, the killer is seen only very briefly; through shaky home video, the imagination is left to create the monster. Limited in its graphic nature, the horror that is seen through the eyes of the camera teases viewers, leaving only our own minds to wonder about what else this villainous creature could have done.
Utilizing well known locations, a party theme that most people can relate to, and the fears that many have of being secluded in a dark wooded area, all hit home with an audience of Bucks County community members. Setup by the relationships between friends, anxiety of a victim with nothing left, and a house in the middle of the woods, “Bucks County” will hit home with its viewers.
