In a world that often moves too quickly, one local mom is intentionally slowing things down—creating space for connection, understanding, and joy for families who need it most. After her son, Daulton suffered a traumatic brain injury at just 16 years old, her life changed overnight. What was once a typical rhythm of school, sports, and milestones became a new reality filled with many unknowns and a deep desire to ensure her son still felt seen, included, and valued. But along the way, she discovered they weren't alone.

A NEW PURPOSE BORN FROM PAIN
Navigating life after a traumatic brain injury can feel isolating – not just for the individual, but for the entire family. Social opportunities can be limited and finding environments that are truly inclusive and understanding can be a challenge. K, a Bucks County mom decided to do something about it. She stated, “Since 2019 I have seen my son struggle to build friendships and relationships and the feeling of loneliness is heavy. The purpose of creating the special social was to create a place for inclusion, support and for growing friendships.”
What started as a small monthly gathering of 9 people, quickly grew into something meaningful for many local families going through similar situations. These monthly events hosted by K are designed specifically for individuals with special needs and their families – safe, welcoming spaces where everyone is included and can show up exactly as they are.
BUILDING A COMMUNITY THAT UNDERSTANDS
Families who attend often share a common feeling of relief. Relief in being surrounded by others who truly understand and watching their children laugh, have fun and simply belong. K explained that these events are not just for those with special needs, but it's also for the parents. She said, “It's extremely tough to be a special needs parent and these events are a great way for moms and dads to connect, support and learn from each other.”
Each event is thoughtfully planned with inclusivity at its core. It's a judgement-free environment and accommodations are made so that everyone is able to participate in the activities. These events began in October and each month has a theme. Past themes include: holiday (gift exchange), talent show, cupcake decorating, karaoke night.
What makes this initiative so impactful isn't just the activities, it's the intention behind them. K's mission is deeply personal. She's not only advocating for her own son, but for an entire community that often goes unseen. Her son, Daulton, who is now navigating life post-injury is at the heart of it all. These events give him the opportunity to socialize, build confidence and experience the kind of community every person deserves. And in doing so, she has created that same opportunity for so many others.

This May, K is hosting Masquerade Prom Night – A Special Needs Social for ages 18+. The event takes place on Friday, May 22 from 7-10 pm at the Yardley Country Club (1010 Redding Avenue, Yardley, PA).
There will be a buffet dinner, dessert, 3 hours of dancing, photo opportunities, games and prizes and so much fun!
