Kayaking at Core Creek

Ever since my run in Core Creek Park, I've been wanting to check out the boat rentals at Lake Luxembourg.  At 175 acres, the lake is not only stunning but large enough to support a variety of water activities. What better way is there to spend an excessively hot Sunday afternoon?

Aquacycle

At Lake Luxembourg, there are several options to hit the beautiful waters- canoes, single kayaks, double kayaks, rowboats, paddle boats, or Aquacycles. Rentals can be purchased for 30 minutes, an hour, or a daily increments. Though the really cool looking Aquacycles were tempting, we decided to try a double kayak at $15 per hour. After my post last week about moonlit kayaking, I was inspired to give it a try in hopes that I can reach the required “intermediate” skill-level by August.

The calm waters of Lake Luxembourg make for an ideal location for beginners. With a bit of effort, I began to get the hang of paddling & turning the kayak (though I somehow managed to get the lower half of my body soaking wet in the process!).  The water felt warm & looked impressively clean.  We experimented by dipping an empty water bottle into the lake and found the water came out almost perfectly clear.

At the middle of the lake, we gave ourselves a break, sitting back to take in the gorgeous 360 degree view for a few minutes.  Though the 90+ degrees felt sweltering on land, the breeze out on the lake made for comfortable conditions.  At that moment, there was no where else I would have rather been.
