peaceable kingdom

“The Peaceable Kingdom” by Edward Hicks

Our neck of the woods has long been revered as a place that is bursting with artistic talent. This summer a new art initiative has been put in place that features great American art as part of what is being called “the largest outdoor art show ever conceived”. The movement is called “Art Everywhere US” and it has been a global movement started with Art Everywhere UK. Art everywhere is using social media to get the word out about each involved nations most beloved public art pieces.

Here in the United States 58 pieces of American artwork have been chosen to be showcased from coast to coast throughout the month of August. Bucks County can boast not one, not two, but three of the famous artists chosen as part of the 58 creators of art being featured.

The three Bucks County artists include Edward Hicks of Langhorne, Martin Johnson Heade native of Lumberville, and Charles Sheeler a onetime resident of Doylestown. Hicks’ piece “The Peaceable Kingdom” is being featured in the movement and comes from the Dallas Museum of Art. Heade, who was once a pupil of Hicks, brings a still life to the “Art Everywhere” table with “Giant Magnolias on Blue Velvet Cloth” and can be seen this month along route I-15 near Provo, Utah among other places. Sheeler’s “Classic Landscape” is enjoying the tropical weather near Hallandale Beach in Florida.
