Thousands of Bucks County residents will be heading to the malls and shopping centers on November 23 with the hopes of scoring big deals on everything from this season’s most coveted toys to the latest in electronics. However, the retail frenzy can cause both consumers and stores to behave undesirably.
To ensure your Black Friday shopping is as efficient and cost-effective as possible, follow the below “Do’s” and “Don’ts:”
Do Set A Budget: One of the most important things to do before you leave your house is to set your budget. With prices slashed, it’s easy to get carried away and blow your budget by buying items on credit. Be careful; with interest, you could end up paying significantly more for the items you charge.
Do Make A List: Plan out what you want to purchase ahead of time. Compare prices and select the store that offers your items at the best rate. It’s also tempting to shop for yourself, but unless you have the budget for it, be disciplined or you’ll find yourself hitting your budget way sooner than you anticipated.
Don’t Forget Your Ads: Stores like Wal-mart and Target offer ad match guarantees this Black Friday, which means they are willing to match the price of an item if another store is offering it for less – as long as you have the flyer with you.
Don’t Procrastinate: If you’re shopping for a big ticket item, you may have to camp outside of the store the night before to get a spot in line. Most stores only have a handful of popular items, and once they’re gone, the deal is done. A lot of retailers will also offer Early Bird discounts, which means an additional percentage off an already marked down item.
Last but not least, remember to be patient. You’ll be facing long lines and overwhelmed cashiers. If the store doesn’t have the product or item that you want, you can always try your luck online on Cyber Monday!
