Emmet Cohen, American jazz pianist and composer.

Bucks County Community College has been bringing unique cultural events to the region for more than 50 years. This fall, Bucks Live! will present a myriad of events on the Newtown Campus. Head to the newly renovated Zlock Performing Arts Center for musical performances, a cultural showcase, streaming series, and even a children’s Halloween concert and party. The exceptional staging, lighting and acoustics, make the intimate 339-seat theater ideal for these types of events.

Pete Chiovarou, director of community programming and college events commented, “Thanks to the support of the community, we’re becoming a larger presence each season as we become known for bringing affordable shows to Bucks County that you can’t see without traveling to a large city.”

Musical Performances

German Jazz guitarist Joscho Stephan will be at Bucks on Thursday, September 12. His roots lie in Gypsy Swing music, the style pioneered in the 1930s by the legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Joscho Stephan has not merely absorbed this music, but also interprets it on the highest level and is actively engaged in extending its boundaries. Barry Wahrhaftig (guitar) of  HCPhilly fame and Dylan Taylor (bass) will join Stephan.

Later in the season, Emmet Cohen, along with drummer Jimmy Cobb, will perform on October 4. Emmet Cohen is a multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer. He’s considered one of his generation’s pivotal figures and aims to honor the jazz masters.

Tibetan Buddhist Monk Residency – Mandala Creation

Join Bucks in a truly unique cultural experience. From September 16 through September 20, Tibetan Monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery in India will visit Bucks to create a large sand Mandala sculpture. During the first four days of their stay, there will be a daily craft sale and viewing of the Mandala creation. On September 18, there will be a cultural showcase in the Zlock Performing Arts Center. And finally, a closing ceremony and parade to say farewell on September 20.

Cultural Streaming Series

Last year, Bucks County Community College introduced a new Cultural Streaming Series, bringing large-as-life video screenings to the Zlock Center. It was such a hit that it will continue this fall. Take in recorded performances of leading classical artists, ensembles, and orchestras from around the world in the comfort of the Zlock Performing Arts Center.

This fall, you can enjoy a Joe Satriani rock show that was recorded in Paris, a recording from the 2013 Verbier Festival of Kissin Playing Schubert and Listz, Eric Johnson in Austin, Texas, and an all-Beethoven program performed by Barenboim, Perlman and Yo-Yo- Ma. Admission is free, but you’re encouraged to register for these events.
