I am a winner. I couldn’t believe it when she called my name. Really? Me? My cousin who was next to me went berserk. I just couldn’t believe it. I was a winner. Ever since that night I have been trying to live my life like a winner. What would a winner do? What do winners say? How do they conduct themselves?

First I was humbled. I had to thank all the people who had voted for me. They believed I was a winner before that night, even when I was unsure of who I was, they knew. <3 They had faith in me. That made me feel like a winner.

Then I started going to Healthy Solutions with Dr Luciano.  He sat me down and laid out the facts.  He could help me lose the weight, but I’d have to change my lifestyle and start eating like a winner. I went through my kitchen and got rid of all the items that would keep me from being a winner. I started a daily regime of healthy eating, nutrients, and a food diary. In the first two weeks, I lost 9 lbs. I couldn’t believe I was doing it. I was so pleased with myself.

The third week I felt defeated, I had only lost 2 lbs.  I was reminded that every champion was a contender at one point. We all get knocked down. We all struggle. That’s what winners do.

Victoria Arnold with Patty Witt at Pilates Bodies by Patty Witt

I am entering into my fourth week with a renewed sense of inner strength.   I decided to join a gym before my next visit with Patty Witt at Pilates Bodies so that I could endure the physical challenge that would be before me. I know this would be a hard road; I had not worked out in years. I can’t lie, the first session was intense. But she reminded me that I was a winner and winners can do anything. I even impressed myself by planking for 35 seconds. (Huge accomplishment)

To become healthy wasn’t enough. I feel like there is momentum in my life. Since I had been relieved of my job in September, I felt like I needed to do more to change. Although I have a job which I enjoy, it is not my passion; I got in touch with a life coach who is able to show me a direction, how to get to my goal, my nail license and to become a nail technician again.

Winners aren’t afraid to ask for help and accept criticism for the greater good.  Winning this contest was more than getting called on stage and being announced the winner. It told me not only did I earn it but also I deserved it. The happiness, I deserve. The confidence, I earned it. My self esteem, like a favorite jacket pushed to the back of a closet, is now pulled out and worn on a daily basis. This opportunity of a lifetime was the catalyst my life needed to help me change for the better, the healthier, and the happier. Not only am I a winner, but also I am blessed.
