25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
Bucks County Playhouse, 70 South Main Street, New Hope
7:30pm

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home life, the tweens spell their way through a series of [potentially made-up] words hoping to never hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

Funny Film Fridays
Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe Street, Bristol

Funny Film Fridays will make you laugh out loud! And we won’t even shush you. The Margaret R. Grundy Memorial Library, 680 Radcliffe Street, will host a movie series gleaned from the American Film Institute list of “100 Funniest American Films of All Time,” beginning August 21st. For eight consecutive Friday afternoons from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm, the public is invited to attend these free cultural film events. Light refreshments will be provided. Louie Anderson

Two time Emmy award winner Louie Anderson is one of the most recognized and adored comics plus Comedy Central him as “One of 100 Greatest Stand Up Comedians of All Time.” He debuted on Carson in 1984, guested with Leno and Letterman and went on to do television and movie appearances on “Comic Relief,” “Grace Under Fire,” “Touched by an Angel,” “Chicago Hope,” “Coming to America” (opposite of Eddie Murphy) and the classic “Ferris Bueller's Day Off.” The multi talented performer starred in his own sitcom “The Louie Show” and comedy specials for both HBO and Showtime. Louie also hosted “Family Feud” and launched the animated series “Life with Louie.”

Moonlit Hike of Quakertown Swamp
Preserved property in the Quakertown Swamp

Native Americans called the August full moon the “Moon When All Things Ripen.” Enjoy a moonlit hike in the Quakertown Swamp and see what the summer has ripened there! Child supervision is required. Limited number of attendees; please register. Free for Heritage Conservancy members; $10 for nonmembers; children 12 and under free.

Beautiful Bouquet Workshop
Linden Hill Gardens, 8230 Easton Road (Route 611), Ottsville

Held in the new Linden Hill Garden Cutting Garden, learn tips and secrets to composing a pleasing bouquet. Each attendee will create a custom arrangement to take home. Workshop fee is $15, includes all materials needed to create one bouquet. Pre-registration is required.
