This summer, Camp NAC, located at the Newtown Athletic Club, is introducing a completely revamped sports camp program. Sports camps are available for campers ages 6-12 from 9:00-3:00 p.m. from June 6th through August 26th. Parents and campers can choose from eight different programs: basketball, flag football, gymnastics, soccer, tae kwon do, tumbling, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.
“Being located at one of the top health and fitness clubs in the country has been a huge benefit to us,” explains Amanda Brown, executive youth programs director at the NAC. “At Camp NAC, we align our summer camp programs with the NAC’s overall mission of ‘Making Lives Better.’ This is where the push to elevate the quality of our sports camps stemmed from.”
The biggest change to the sports camp program is the structure of the daily camp schedule. The goal of each sport program is to build skills through various drills, group exercises and scrimmages. Campers who are interested in seeing an improvement in their skills and are interested in learning new techniques will have a blast in these camps.
“I love helping kids develop skills and get better at the sports they are passionate about,” explained Sports Camp Manager, Dylan Sinker, who works as a Physical Education teacher during the schoolyear. “Revamping the sports camps at Camp NAC to make them a little more intensive and skills-based is going to have a huge impact on the value of the camp for our campers.”
Campers enrolled in sports camps will utilize a variety of facilities, including the NAC Sports Training Center (NSTC), a 40,000 square foot facility that comes fully turfed, outdoor sand volleyball courts, two gymnastics studios, basketball gymnasium and outdoor fields.
