Staff and board members at Central Bucks Family YMCA recently participated in cancer education and sensitivity training at Central Bucks Family YMCA in preparation for their upcoming cancer wellness initiative. The program for cancer survivors will feature a 12-week group personal training program designed to increase endurance, strength and flexibility. Also included is a complimentary family membership for participants and their families for the duration of the program.
The seminar was designed to educate key staff at the Y on the physical and emotional stages of cancer. The presentation was conducted by Dr. Kathryn Schmitz, PhD, MPH, an Associate Professor of Epidemiology in Biostatistics and Epidemiology at Perelman School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania and Kathy Custis, a staff member of Dr. Schmitz’s Penn TREC Survivor Center and former coordinator of the cancer wellness program at the YMCA of Burlington County.
