It’s award show season – and for some Philadelphians, their favorite part of award shows isn’t about the winners or the losers – it’s the red carpet. Celebrity TV show hosts, journalists, and bloggers alike anticipate awards season like Christmas – who is wearing what? Best dressed? Worst dressed? For us common folk at home, we watch for the hottest trends in dresses, make-up, and hair.
A celebrity-inspired hairstyle is an easy way to update your look. Here are a few styles you can take with you to the salon:
- The Rihanna: Known to be a trendsetter in both hair and fashion, Rihanna (who constantly switches up her hairstyle) recently went back to her short locks, rocking a stylish pixie cut. Contrary to popular belief, pixie cuts work on every face shape – just make sure to tailor the cut to fit your face shape. If you have a heart-shaped face, keep the cut a bit shorter so it’s balanced; if you have an oval face, be sure to keep the sides and back longer than the top.
- The Claire Danes: The star of the award-winning show “Homeland” keeps her long blonde tresses beautifully layered with just the right amount of curl at the bottom. If you’re not quite daring enough to chop your hair off for a pixie cut, this is a great look for longer hair. Start by applying product to towel-dried hair. Separate your hair into sections, use a round brush, and pull the hair taut as you dry. After drying, take a curling iron and gently curl the bottom pieces. Apply some hairspray to hold the look in place.
- The Kerry Washington: Kerry Washington wowed at the 2013 Golden Globes with an edgy, sleek blunt hairstyle. This medium length style is a good in between for those not willing to do the big chop, but who don’t want to deal with super long hair. After blow drying your hair, apply a straightening serum. Section the hair off, and apply a hot straightener starting at the roots and pulling through to the ends of the hair.
