Join JDRF in the 2010 Walk to Cure Diabetes
Recently, Bucks & Montgomery Living Magazine’s Director of Operations Karen Lavery, lost her beloved son Danny. Danny was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the young age of 15. Karen, who we have come to know as one of the most inspiring, energetic, and creative people we know, has made the decision to grieve for her son in one of the most inspiring ways that she can think of. Along with a half million other walkers from across the country, Karen will be taking part in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International’s Walk to Cure Diabetes in Philadelphia on October 24th, as they try to reach their goal of raising $90 million. But even further, Karen has organized a team of walkers who are calling themselves the Dash for Danny. So far, Karen has enlisted 100 walkers to help her commemorate her son and to raise awareness for this very serious disease. Please visit Karen Lavery’s “Dash for Danny” website here to see her progress, donate online, join the team and see how close she is to reaching her personal goal.
On October 18th from 5PM – 9PM, The Perk, 501 E. Walnut Street, Perkasie, will be donating 10% of all food proceeds to Dash for Danny.Be sure to stop by and join us for a delicious meal with good company.
As many as 3 million Americans have type 1 diabetes, a disease that is most often diagnosed in childhood that strikes suddenly, lasts a lifetime and carries the constant threat of deadly complications, including heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and amputation. JDRF’s mission is constant: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.
JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide—and it’s making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. The walk draws people together in a healthy activity for a worthy cause, raising money to help find a cure for diabetes. It’s fun for families and builds camaraderie among company employees and friends. Above all, it’s an event you will feel good about being a part of. Won’t you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together we can make the cure a reality.
