You may have noticed a new restaurant taking shape in the center of Doylestown.  The flavors of the Caribbean are making their way into the fantastic variety of cuisine that the County seat currently offers.  The owners and staff at The Sweet Spot have been hard at work, getting things ready for its big opening – slated for this coming Monday (April 23rd).  We were fortunate to have the opportunity to speak with one of the restaurant's managers and get the inside scoop on the new restaurant and how it has all been coming together.

BH: Where did the idea for the Sweet Spot come from?

SS: The owners (husband and wife team Karen and Serge Tancrede) have been raising a family in Doylestown and they wanted to have a safe, unique, and fun place for younger generations to hang out.  They didn't see a lot of that here in town, so they decided to create it.

BH: That's a great motivation – is this their first experience owning and managing a restaurant?

SS: No, Karen and Serge currently own four McDonalds locations in West Philly.

BH: Wow, so they definitely have some experience in the food industry.  I've gotta say, you have a really great spot on Main Street in town, how did you find that location?  Were you set on opening in Doylestown before leasing that space?

SS: I haven't asked the owners about this directly, but I do know that they are interested in opening other locations (Newtown, Chalfont, etc.) if the Doylestown restaurant does well – which is exciting for us all.

BH: Based on your description of the idea behind the restaurant, I'm assuming The Sweet Spot will be a fun place to hang out.  What will the atmosphere be like?

SS: This is from our Facebook page and I think it summarizes it the best: “The Sweet Spot is a Caribbean / American Restaurant with a fun relaxed atmosphere. In addition to great tasting food, a variety of interactive features are available including: pool table, sand shuffle board table, Microsoft Surface 2 (full-size touch screen table), free wi-fi access, classic board games and a beautiful tropical fish tank. To top off your experience enjoy our fully loaded frozen yogurt bar, specialty island drinks, or a customized Espresso beverage.”

BH: What a nice variety of fun activities.  What kinds of things can we expect to find on the menu at the Sweet Spot?

SS: Small plates such as beef patties priced at below five dollars to filet mignon just above ten dollars. Espresso drinks (mocha, caramel, lattes, and cappuccinos), coffee, smoothies, island drinks (pina colada, strawberry daiquiri), and desserts like citrus cake.  (We will be BYOB)

BH: Will The Sweet Spot have any specialties?

SS: Caribbean food!

BH: Haha, well we're excited to come check it out.  When will it be open??

SS: It has been challenging working through some of the Borough Regulations, so we've been pushing back the opening date daily.  We are hoping to open this Monday.

The Sweet Spot sounds like it could really bring something unique to the Doylestown Restaurant Scene, which is no small feat considering the shear number of great restaurants already there.  Keep your eye out for its opening – sounds like it could be any day now.
