Adele Gamble

I admit, I watch all the scary horror movies and visit haunted houses during Halloween, but in the back of my mind I know nothing is actually real. So when I came across Ghost Tours of New Hope, I figured what's the big deal? It is all fake right? Wrong! Ghost Tours of New Hope has been around for 29 years and everything remains the same as when it started in 1981. Everything they do is true and documented – no joke

The tours were started by author Adi-Kent Thomas Jeffrey, who wrote numerous books on the unexplained mysteries of the world. She had a devotion to paranormal activity and investigated all the hauntings in New Hope. Adele Gamble, who now owns Ghost Tours of New Hope came on board roughly one year after it started and has been giving tours ever since.

During the month of October, tours meet every Friday and Saturday night along with Halloween night. Tours begin at 8pm at the corner of Main and Ferry Streets in New Hope and last roughly an hour. From June through the third weekend in November tours meet every Saturday night. The cost is only $10 per person and no reservations are required. Private tours are also offered year round with a reservation.

Although I wasn't sure if I was ready to take a tour myself, I had the chance to speak with Adele about what she does. I could tell right away she knew almost everything about the ghosts of New Hope, which gave me the chills. She met Ms. Jeffery at the very first ghost tour and was fascinated by what she saw. Soon after, she was hired as a tour guide and nearly five years later took over the business. Adele has been into ghost hunting since she can remember and knew it would be her passion in life. At her first seance with Ms. Jeffery on Halloween night, she actually had her hair pulled by Joseph Pickett, one of the many spirits that haunts New Hope on Mechanic Street. Adele still often sees Joseph on her tours. (Scared yet?)

Halloween seems to be the most popular time of year for ghost tours, but Adele assured me that ghosts are out all year round. Just this past weekend, the Ghost Tours of New Hope had one of their highest attended tours with 298 people in just one night! But don't worry, you will get to see everything on the tour. Each night, four tour guides take you around the streets of New Hope led by a lantern. The tour is all outside where you will encounter some of the most haunted places, like the Logan Inn. Adele finds this place to be the most haunted in New Hope. She has numerous guests of the inn tell her about their encounters while staying there. There, you can find the ghost of a Revolutionary war solider, two children and a young girl that drowned in nearby water. Room six is the most haunted, where ghosts of prior owners of the inn visit normally (see video below). Along the tour you may also see the phantom hitchhiker and Aaron Burr.

The Ghost Tours of New Hope have become so popular, a DVD was made where Adele will lead you through the streets of New Hope. The DVD also features interviews with some of New Hope's proprietors who share their own ghostly encounters and an exclusive biography on Adi-Kent Thomas Jeffrey. Check out the trailer below! The DVD can be purchased on Amazon.com.

Although this video is not from Ghost Tours of New Hope, I wanted to see all about the Logan Inn myself and came across this video. After watching it, I am convinced what Adele said is true – the Logan Inn may very well be the most haunted place.

Since ghosts are out all year long, you still have a few more weeks to go on a public tour or schedule a private tour. Contact Adele at 215-343-5564 or at ghstofPA@aol.com.
