John, Will, and Matt Harding and Katie and Christian Kirkpatrick are “Happening Kids” because they hold annual month-long charity drives.  Every year the children select a charity to support.  During their first drive in 2010, 800 books were collected for Reach Out and Read. These books were, in turn, distributed to children living in poverty at pediatric visits. In 2011, over 500 toys, books and craft items were collected for the Make a Wish Foundation. These items were given to children with severe medical illnesses. This year, the children are hoping to top the previous drives as they collect items for Cradles to CrayonsThis organization collects essential items for babies and children, and distributes them through shelters, programs and schools that serve children who are homeless or living in poverty.

Their charity drive for Cradles to Crayons is currently underway.  The kids have decorated and distributed collection boxes to several nearby sites. The children then raise awareness and collect items requested by the charity throughout the month. They will also be hosting a neighborhood open house where items are collected.  In early March, they will take inventory of items received and deliver them to the charity during their spring break.

We are extremely proud of our children’s efforts to touch the lives of others!
