Happening Women: Kelly Nise

Throughout the month of March, we have been highlighting some of Buck County’s most Happening Women. Our next featured Happening Woman is Kelly Nise. She owns After Image Salon – a beautiful establishment just off Main Street in Yardley. You can sense that Kelly is passionate about her work the moment you walk in the door. The environment alone is sharp and inviting. We recently sat down with Kelly to talk with her about her business and her inspirations.

BH: What initially inspired you work as a stylist?

KN: I've always loved doing hair since I was 4 years old. I have since developed a passion for making people look & feel great!

BH: Awesome, what made you want to start your own business?

KN: After working in various salons for almost 10 years, I developed my own vision for what I thought would make a great salon. So when the opportunity arose for me to own my own business, I jumped at the chance.

BH: Well, your passion for this business is very evident. Your salon has a really incredible interior space. It is colorful, stylish, and inviting. What prompted you to create such an intentionally uplifting atmosphere for “After Image”?

KN: I've always had a desire to go to Bali, and love the look of old & new combined with soft colors. I chose to design the salon using Indonesian artifacts in order to help my clients relax in an inviting atmosphere. To appease our creative nature, we are continually updating the look of the salon.

BH: It's very effective, what challenges have you faced as a woman who owns her own business, and how did you deal with those situations?

KN: Sometimes it's a challenge to deal with employees, vendors, etc. that are intimidated by a successful business woman.

BH: That definitely sounds frustrating. On a brighter note, it seems like you have seen a lot of success thus far. What do you enjoy most about running “After Image”?
KN: My staff is amazing. I am so blessed to work with such a great group of people in a town that I love.

BH: I'm sure that makes it a bit easier to come to work each morning. What advice would you give to other women who want to start their own business?

KN: Make sure that the first 6 years or so, you have the time to devote to your new business. Otherwise, my suggestion is to forget your business dreams, and find yourself a hot, successful devoted partner.

BH: Haha, well played. What sort of long-term impact do you hope to make on your community?

KN: Providing a stable and loal business that is well respected in Yardley and beyond. Knowing that the skilled people who work at After Image are devoted and caring to their clients as well as to the community.
