On March 8th, we will spring forward and the days will begin to stretch a little longer – lighter mornings, golden evenings and a sure sign that warmer weather is near. The move from winter to spring can have a powerful impact on mental health. As the daylight hours increase and temperatures rise, our bodies naturally adjust. However, it's normal to feel both refreshed and a little out of sync during the transition. Here's how to align your routine with the changing light to feel more energized as spring approaches.

GET MORNING SUNLIGHT (EVEN IF IT'S ONLY 10 MINUTES)

Longer days mean more access to natural light – one of the best mood regulators we have. Morning sunlight helps reset your circadian rhythm, supports better sleep at night and increases serotonin production. In the morning, try enjoying your coffee outside, taking a short walk or even something as simple as opening up the curtains as soon as you wake up.

MOVE YOUR EXERCISE OUTDOORS

Fresh air and movement are a wonderful combination and with longer daylight hours, the opportunities to get outside will increase. Take advantage of moving your body outside – a walk around the neighborhood, a backyard stretch session, a family bike ride after dinner or checking out a new park. Being outside lowers cortisol and boosts endorphins.

RECONNECT SOCIALLY

Longer days naturally invite more connection. As we enter the season of getting back out of the house after a long, cold winter, try to aim for simple gatherings – coffee dates, playground meetups with other parents, family walks, backyard dinners. Social connection is good for the soul!

ADAPT YOUR DIET TO THE SEASON

Winter often brings heavier comfort foods. As the weather warms up, begin incorporating lighter, nutrient-dense options that support mood and energy. Focus on leafy greens and colorful vegetables, protein at every meal and staying hydrated. Make it a priority to check out your local farmers market!
