It's Nutts in Titusville

We had passed It's Nutts dozens of times. Located just over the Washington Crossing Bridge along Route 29 in Titusville, New Jersey you'll find a nonchalant diner & ice cream shop. Still, we had never stopped in, and in all honesty, hadn't given It's Nutts a second thought.

That was, not until browsing through Yelp.com one afternoon when It's Nutts popped up as a local recommendation.  Pretty soon, we found ourselves reading through dozens of comments praising the food and ice cream. This is what we saw:

“THE BEST tomato pie you'll ever taste.”

“I've got two words for you: fried chicken. Wait, hold up – make that three words: FAMOUS fried chicken.”

“This place is fantastic. Get the meatloaf sandwich. It's the best meatloaf sandwich ever made anywhere in the world, amen.”

We just couldn't believe that everyone was talking about the same restaurant we were picturing, the place that had been just a few miles away from us for years.  This was going to take some investigating…

Delicious Mac n' Cheese from It's Nutts

It's Nutt's brought a whole new meaning to the saying, “You can't judge a book by it's cover.”

It didn't stand a chance...

We arrived with empty bellies and a bottle of wine in hand since the restaurant is a BYOB, ready to find out if It's Nutts would live up to it's Yelp hype.  In the name of research, we ordered a side of Mac ‘n Cheese; the Baby Spinach & Goat Cheese Salad appetizer;  a margarita pizza entree; and homemade ice cream for dessert.

The mac n' cheese was absolutely terrific- a home-cooked, perfectly blended combination of cheeses, topped with just a little bit of crunchy bacon.  We quickly devoured every last bite.

The goat cheese and spinach salad was equally delicious- fresh greens, soft goat cheese, and juicy mandarin oranges- YUM!

Next up was the margarita pie. Even though they're famous for their tomato pies, we just couldn't resist the fresh mozzarella. The crust is extremely thin and crunchy, almost a chip-like consistency. The cheese, though delicious, is a bit sparse, making the sweet tomato sauce that It's Nutts is known for the star of this pie.

Finally, it was time to try their famous ice cream. Already full from dinner, we stuck to small servings- sampling the Mint Chocolate Chip, Black Raspberry, & Ultimate Peanut Butter Cup.  It was the perfect ending to one sweet dining experience.
