Hallelujah! It took me a little while, but I've done it;  I've found great Mexican food in Bucks County!  Since moving back to Bucks, I have been searching long and hard for a delicious burrito.  Having experienced my fair share of disappointments, I was starting to fear the worst.

Last week, I decided to give Lilly's Cocina Loca in Newtown a shot.   With fingers crossed, we arrived at the cute location at the edge of the Newtown borough for dinner.  My initial impression of the restaurant with it's charming, understated Mexican restaurant appeal gave me reason to hope.  Large paintings, a quirky bar, a cozy outdoor patio, & a few large sombreros created a friendly & interesting ambiance.

Two things really stuck out to me about Lilly's- the fresh food & attention to detail.  Everything we ate tasted extremely fresh- the Sangria, the salsa & guacamole, the chicken burrito, & the seafood enchiladas.  I have never had a burrito with such rich colors & flavors.  Small details, like the metal Sangria

straw shaped to scoop the cherry, made the experience complete.  Our attentive waiter went out of his way to enhance our meal- throwing extra spice in the guacamole & giving us a bowl to enjoy our Sangria-soaked fruit after we had kicked the pitcher.  Even the chef's attention to detail stood out; our guacamole appetizer included several types of delicious tortillas rather than just the standard chip.  By the end of the meal, I was feeling pretty great about Lilly's.

One complaint I had heard about Lilly's was the prices.  While it is more expensive than the Mexican chains common to the area, I think that the quality of food certainly warrants the extra cash.  There are a range of price points on the menu; the amazing burrito I had was only $12 but you can also order entrees around $25.  A pitcher of Sangria was close to $30 but also provided six full glasses so it may be practical for a large group.  Bottom line- the menu allows you to dine cheaper if that is a concern but you could also splurge on a special occasion.
