A Local Love Story: Warminster’s Amanda & Alberto
BH: How did you meet each other?
A: Alberto and I met in a discoteca in Madrid. We were both out with friends and we just gravitated toward each other and began talking. I gave him my phone number and honestly didn’t think he would call me. I was pleasantly surprised when he called me the next day. When I came back to Bucks County over the summer, we constantly talked over Google chat. We had a lot in common – we both love the outdoors, music, movies and hanging out with friends and family. When I returned to Madrid in September, we began hanging out more and I guess the rest is history!
BH: What has it been like blending Alberto's Spanish roots with the culture of Bucks County?
A: Alberto is from the northwest corner of Spain, a region called Galicia. They are known for their seafood and delicious recipes. We try to cook healthy seafood dishes whenever we can. Alberto is a big hamburger fan so we also enjoy checking out different restaurants in the Bucks County area on the hunt for the best burger.
BH: Gotta love it- from healthy seafood in Spain to burgers in Bucks! And how was it for you to adjust from growing up in Bucks to living in Spain?
A: Living in Spain was a wonderful experience, but definitely different from the day-to-day life here in Bucks County. In Madrid, people’s schedules are different including siesta time and late nights, people are more laid back and friendly, and definitely more family-oriented. Spanish people enjoy having big meals and spending time together.
BH: Speaking of spending time together, what is your favorite date spot in Bucks County?
A: We love hanging out in Doylestown and going to Bobby Simone’s or happy hours at 86 West. Sometimes during the summer, we venture a bit further away to New Hope and head to The Landing.
BH: Was it at one of those favorite spots that Alberto propose?
A: He proposed over his Christmas vacation here in Bucks County. It was the day after a big snowstorm when just the two of us were hanging out at home. He surprised me by just popping the question!
BH: So exciting! So when's the wedding scheduled?
A: This has been a huge transitional year for us. I came back to the States and began working full-time and Alberto moved to Bucks County, landed a job and bought a car. We also moved to our first place and are finally getting settled. With that said, we haven’t set a date yet, but are focusing on enjoying our engagement time and not stressing about planning.
BH: What's your favorite memory together?
A: One of my favorite memories is hanging out in Alberto’s old neighborhood in Madrid, walking to our favorite cafe down the street and watching the Barcelona football team play. We also love cooking a big meal, opening a good bottle of wine and watching a movie.
BH: Sounds like the perfect night. Congratulations on the engagement and we wish you a lifetime of wonderful memories!
