Travis Manion Foundation Events

https://www.travismanion.org

The Travis Manion Foundation is a Doylestown-based, non-profit organization with a mission to “empower veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations.” Their programs focus on investing in veterans and families of those who have fallen to help improve both their mental health and well-being. This organization has three upcoming opportunities for involvement. On July 19, they are hosting a Yard Cleanup for a Local Veteran in Chalfont. During this event, volunteers will assist with weeding, mulching, trimming trees, and additional tasks to help maintain the beauty of the property. Gloves and snacks will be provided, so register today to take part in this opportunity to give back to someone who has served our country.

In the fall, there are two additional chances to take part in the renowned 9/11 Heroes Run. This event will take place on September 13 in Feasterville and on October 5 in Doylestown. There are multiple ways to become involved in this event. You can register for the race itself, a 5K where people run and walk to honor the heroes of September 11 and those who continued to serve our country. The registration fee ranges from $35-$40. Those who do not wish to race can also sign up to volunteer at the Heroes Run at no cost. All are also welcome to donate to the Travis Manion Foundation, where funds ensure that future generations understand the sacrifices that were made on September 11.

Carversville Farm Foundation

https://www.carversvillefarm.org

Carversville Farm Foundation is a non-profit organization in Bucks County with a mission to end hunger. They custom grow pasture-raised meat and eggs as well as organic vegetables, donating these products to food pantries and soup kitchens. The farm is always looking for volunteers to help harvest vegetables, pull weeds and support their mission. Their website has a list of upcoming events, where those who are interested can simply sign up for an open slot. There are multiple events per week, and each slot is just two hours. Opportunities include “Washing and Packing Vegetables”, “Green Thumbs & Helping Hands Team”, “Weed Warriors: Help Us Keep the Fields Thriving” and more. Check out below for a more in-depth description of these options. These events are great opportunities for students looking to receive service hours.

Washing and Packing Vegetables – This experience is held indoors in the farm’s Produce Barn. Volunteers will help wash and pack a variety of vegetables to prepare them to be delivered to the farm’s 20 partners throughout the greater Philadelphia area.

Green Thumbs & Helping Hands Team – During this experience, volunteers will help pick freshly-grown vegetables and/or pull weeds to help the farm continue growing food for those in need.

Weed Warriors: Help Us Keep the Fields Thriving – Volunteers will help the farm in the fields and high tunnels to get rid of all the weeds that threaten the fresh produce. Volunteers will hand-weed to ensure the health of the crops while keeping the soil healthy.
