
Matt Baranoski, a native of Perkasie, will compete in the men’s Keirin at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
The Keirin is a form of motor-paced cycle racing in which track cyclists sprint for victory following a speed-controlled start behind a motorized or non-motorized pacer. It became an official event at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, Australia.
Baranoski already has eight national titles to his credit, including numerous Junior National Championship titles, Collegiate National Championship titles, two medals at Junior World Championships, a UCI Elite World cup medal and numerous Elite National Championship Titles. He finished fifth in sprint and eighth in Keirin at the 2015 Pan American Games.
Matt will graduate from Penn State this year with a degree in electrical engineering and turns 23 just nine days before the Opening Ceremony in Rio. Follow Matt on Twitter as he goes for the gold.
