Although conveniently nestled between two major cities, both known around the world for serving fantastic food, Bucks County residents need not travel very far to enjoy world-class dining. In fact, one might say a food revolution is taking place in our own backyards, with passionate entrepreneurs striving each day to share their tasty visions with the community.
One such restaurant that stands out from the pack is Maxwell's on Main Street, also known simply as M.O.M.'S, who is enthusiastically leading Doylestown's “craft” movement- focused on serving the best craft beer, preparing the tastiest craft food, & delivering a genuine craft culture. Brothers Brian and Nathan Hugill have built a triple threat in the midst of Doylestown's bustling dining scene.
While Bucks Happening readers may know that M.O.M.'S is already one of the best beer bars in Bucks County, they may not realize that their passion for artisanal culture extends beyond the bar. With years of experience working in the Manhattan restaurant industry, the Hugill brothers are dedicated to serving artisanal, homemade food and showcasing eclectic bands beyond those typically found in suburban venues.
The menu at M.O.M.'S features a wide range of American fare with pinch of Creole flavor, inspired by Chef Robert Marchesano, who after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America took his first chef position at Mr. B’s Bistro in New Orleans. Crowd favorites include fried pickles made from scratch, slow-cooked Barbeque Pork Quesadillas, and Jambalaya with sautéed shrimp and andouille sausage. On the weekends, diners will find fresh off-the-boat, intricate seafood specials like “Blackened swordwfish over BBQ sweet potatoes and crab meat hash.” And as for the cherry on top- recently added to the dessert menu is another hand-crafted favorite in Bucks County, OWowCow ice cream.
With fantastic food & drinks at the core of their dining experience, the third and final component to a truly memorable experience at M.O.M.'S lies in their carefully curated craft culture, with several eclectic spaces housed under one roof. Doylestown professionals flock to their generous happy hour specials from 5pm to 7pm; families cozy up over Sunday brunch; friends enjoy drinks atop one of the only roof top bars in Doylestown; Bucks County craft beer aficionados line up for Wednesday craft beer nights; and local music enthusiasts tune into their house band, the Cover Ups, on the last Thursday of every month.
Even with so much going on at M.O.M.'S, their commitment to “craft” culture neatly ties together each element, creating a destination that embodies the ideals of Bucks County's covetable dining scene.
