If your house was on fire, what is the first object you would grab to save? Likely, your short list would include photographs- a wedding album, baby pictures, or perhaps just a shoebox filled with old memories. If you go on Facebook, what is the first status update that jumps out at you? A new photo album! Hell, even if you barely know the person, I bet there are many of us guilty of perusing through a photo album or two.
We can't help it; we just love photographs. That's why finding a great photographer is so important. We were really lucky at Bucks Happening to find Mike Landis Photography for the winner of our Wedding Contest. Browsing through his impressive collection of pictures, which range from wedding & engagement shots to extreme sports to newborns, you are quickly captivated by the stunning imagery. We wanted to know what had inspired such beautiful work and got a chance to ask Mike a few questions:
BH: Tell us a little about yourself- how did you become a photographer and when did you found Mike Landis Photography?
ML: I became a photographer about 5 years ago. I started my career in videography, but noticed that I really enjoyed working with clients and developing relationships. I felt the videography world did not allow as much for that. I have always had an interest in art, so I self taught myself photography. I am so glad for my first clients, they truly trusted me to be their photographer and from there I have grown and expanded my business!
BH:What are some of the big photography trends for wedding and portrait photography?
ML: Playing with different lighting situations
BH: What do you like best about being a photographer?
ML: I love the fact that I get to develop relationships with my clients. For me, it is not just about showing up at a wedding and shooting for the day, it's about getting to know my bride and groom and developing a friendship with them that will hopefully last a lifetime. That I can start with their wedding pictures and than pregnancy pictures, than baby, and so on!
BH: Where are your favorite local places to shoot?
ML: Lowes, Aldie Mansion, Cairnwood
BH: What advice do you give to a bride and groom trying to choose their wedding photographer?
ML: Be comfortable and trust who you choose. Trust as in, the poses they may ask you to do, or the places they ask you to go are from an artistic eye, trust them 🙂 Know that the photographer that you have at your wedding will really care about you as people!
BH: How did you become interested in blogging about your various photography endeavors?
ML: I knew that blogging was an important part of photography, it allows people to see right away my newest photos and keep up to date with my personal life as well. They get to know a little about me, even before we meet!
BH: Do you have a favorite photograph?
ML: I have many photos that I have fallen in love with, but my all time favorites are pictures that really show the personalities of whoever is behind the lens!
BH: What's in store for the future of Mike Landis Photography?
ML: Continue to develop relationships and enjoy photographing people in some of the most important parts of their lives!
