Kathy Sledge sings National Anthem at past MMA event
What is MMA?
Over the past couple year, Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) has gained a HUGE national following. For those who haven't had the chance to experience MMA, it is, simply put, a combat sport that allows a wide variety of fighting techniques and skills, from a mixture of other combat sports.
So what is MMA Fight Night? MMA Fight Night features 10 professional fights and more produced by Jim McCann of Xtremefreestyle Combat Sports Training. This fight is designed to feature some of the most notable up and coming fighters both Pro and Am from the entire East Coast and Canada. A 30 foot Octagon fight cage (6,000 pounds of steel) which is the largest used in the sport, will be erected in the fight space with several hundred seats for full viewing.
When is it? Friday, June 4th at 7pm
Where? Believe it or not, this event isn't happening in Atlantic City or even the spectrum downtown. It's all happening right here in Bucks at the Newtown Athletic Club
The Details: There will be both professional and amateur fights on the fight card which rivals any card you will find in Atlantic City. Celebrity guests include Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka, (WWE Wrestling legend) and Mike Jones (NABA/NABO Welterweight Champion).
The event will have food and beverage available and vendors including the US Army, Shosen MMA branded clothing and Liquid Lightning Energy drink will be giving out materials and prizes all night long.
Plus, Kathy Sledge of Sister Sledge (“We are Family”) will be singing the National Anthem live that night to kick off the event. Jim McCann, the organizer, a professional fighter, and internationally renowned martial arts instructor noted, “This Fight Night is one of a series of Fight Nights which will take place at the Newtown Athletic Club throughout 2011 and represents our ability to provide cutting edge MMA sport entertainment which at this point is the fastest growing martial arts sport in the world.”
