rymanPerkasie is home to our next Mover & Shaker, Ryman Maxwell. It's where he spends countless hours committed to his business, Down to Earth Café (voted Best Breakfast in the 2013 Happening List competition) as well as the overall economic revitalization of Perkasie through his involvement in the Perkasie Olde Town Association.

His café  goes beyond a place to grab a quick bite; Ryman is truly passionate about educating and exposing customers to better food, focusing on local products and food made with a passion.

Ryman has overcome a lot of adversity to get to where he is today. When he was 12 years old, he was burned over 70% of his body and nearly lost his life. Through strength and perseverance he continues to achieve. Down to Earth Café is his second successful business.

Anthony Volpi described his long-time friend, “I have known Ryman for over 20 years. He has worked very hard to make his dreams become a reality. Through all of his adversity and challenges he has never wavered from who he is as a person. All of his success has just made Ryman that much more driven. One thing that I know he takes pride in above all is being a dad and husband.”

Ryman gave us some insight into his busy life as a Bucks County Mover & Shaker:

BH: What motivates you every morning?

RM: To be better than yesterday.  To create and innovate new ideas to make Down to Earth Cafe a better café.

BH:  And what would you say is your idea of a perfect day?

RM: 85 and sunny, sand at my feet,  with my three girls and perfect waves.

BH: Who do you look up to?

RM: I look up to anyone who has never accepted what other people want for them.  People who go out and create and push the envelope.

BH: How did you decide to open a restaurant?

RM: I love food and the conversation that goes along with it.  And what I saw in my community was a lack of options for better quality foods, coffee and smoothies.  I also envisioned a place to sit and relax and enjoy it with friends.  By starting a local business, I no longer have to fight traffic in NJ.

BH: Which achievement are you most proud of?

RM: There have been a lot of them.  Professionally,  I am most proud to say that the hard work and passion that has gone into Down to Earth Café is paying off.   To see it grow and thrive every day is very rewarding.  Personally, I am most proud of overcoming being severely burned at the age of 12 and being alive and kicking.

BH: What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome?

RM: Convincing my wife that entrepreneurship is the way to go for a career.

BH: What is the biggest thing that you’d like to achieve over the next 5 years?

RM: Expand.

BH: How do you think your friends & coworkers would describe you?

RM: The ones that truly know me would probably say crazy.  But I would hope that they would see a passionate and driven person, who refuses to give up.

BH: Where’s your favorite spot to be in Bucks County?

RM: We have so much to offer in Bucks, but I would have to choose Perkasie, the town in which I live.  That is probably one of the most influential reasons I started Down To Earth Cafe..  I love our community and all it has to offer.

BH: If you could go back in time and talk to yourself ten years ago, what advice would you give?

RM: I don’t think I would change a thing……the journey and education of my experiences is part of the fun.  Plus I don’t take advice that well.
