Happy Donut Day Bucks County! Say what? Good news: National Donut Day is real. This national tradition is the first Friday of June each year. Our astute research team has discovered that National Donut Day was created in 1938 by the Salvation Army. The holiday began as a fundraiser in Chicago to help the needy who were suffering as a result of the Depression and to celebrate the women who served donuts (then spelled ‘doughnuts') to soldiers during World War I. Many donut shops offer free or discounted donuts throughout the day to celebrate the event. What's more, legend has it that donuts consumed on National Donut Day don't actually contain calories! (Disclaimer: donuts always contain calories, even on National Donut Day) You can read more about the annual celebration on the official National Donut Day website.
