The Newtown Athletic Club (the NAC) is well known in Bucks County as being a world-class health and wellness center. And with its “Breaking Boundaries” expansion and renovation campaign well underway, it seems that there’s truly nothing they can’t do. Well, it’s about to get even better.

The Newtown Discovery Preschool, a private preschool powered by the NAC, will open in September 2020. The highly innovative preschool will provide a collaborative approach to learning through play for children ages 2 through 5 years old.

The Curriculum

The curriculum combines learning with structured play in a fun, safe, and nurturing environment that goes beyond the basic preschool education. Teachers will be able to differentiate instruction based on students’ natural abilities and interests, allowing them to reach their fullest potential and at their own pace. The curriculum also exposes students to a variety of learning opportunities that are both authentic and real-world based. The Village, for example, is an entire floor dedicated to fostering innovative thinking through a hands-on educational approach. Children can check out their groceries at the supermarket, create a sculpture out of clay in the art studio, perform on stage in the theater, and learn about the galaxy by observing the planets in the solar system room.

Curriculum for the Newtown Discovery Preschool utilizes the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) learning philosophy with an added focus on physical development, health, wellness and literacy. The brand-new facility will also feature a nature-inspired community that will allow students to learn through exploration, socialization and play.

Every child is unique. Therefore, the environment at the Newtown Discovery Preschool has been specially designed to develop the whole child. It will allow children the freedom to make sense of the world around them through creative play and active engagement. This approach to learning creates more meaningful connections which are then stored in a child’s long term memory. At Newtown Discovery Preschool, children will gain self-confidence, develop a healthy mindset, form special bonds with friends and teachers, and ultimately be prepared for a successful and happy lifestyle.

The Programming

In addition to the core curriculum, Newtown Discovery Preschool provides additional enrichment programs. All students have FULL access to the Newtown Athletic Club during their school days to keep their minds and bodies active throughout the day. Think cooking, gymnastics, dance, fitness, yoga classes and more!

The Staff

We all know that you can have a beautiful space, but the teachers are what TRULY make a difference for most children. Newtown Discovery Preschool is dedicated to providing a safe and friendly learning environment for every child. Each team member is thoroughly trained to foster the joy of learning and sense of accomplishment for all students. All teachers have completed a bachelor’s degree. Staff qualifications include First Aid, AED and CPR certifications as well as a minimum of 8 years working in a childcare field. Plus, a nurse will be available on site.
