Last week, we attended the final show of “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” by the Newtown Arts Company. It's always wonderful to watch passionate actors from the community perform their hearts out. The show, set in a Catskills resort during the 1960s with classic songs by Neil Sedaka reminded me of “Jersey Boys”. It's what I picture would have happened to Baby in Dirty Dancing if Patrick Swayze had never showed up! Watching all of the heads bopping in the audience, it was obvious that people were having a great time reminiscing over Neil Sedaka hits.
What really stood out to me, though, was the wonderful scholarships that the Newtown Arts Company awards to local young actors pursuing secondary education in theater. Now in their 27th year, NAC produces six shows each year in addition to hosting a Summer Youth Theater program. Check out their line-up & plan a night out at the theater (the Temperance House runs an after show drink special!) while supporting a fantastic cause.
