People who know me well know I am not exactly a morning person, and I'm a total night owl (totally opposite of my husband, who is out of bed before 6 AM and almost catatonic directly following dinner LOL). But this past Saturday, exception was necessary for the Nordstrom Beauty Fall Cosmetics Trend Show (follow them on Facebook and Twitter). Doors opened at 7AM, so me and my beauty-loving friends Danielle and Lisa (check out Lisa's beauty and fitness blog) sucked it up in the name of beauty.
Doppelgangers! Nordstrom's Beauty Director Julianne DeChaump and Stephanie Pratt from The Hills
I don't write much about beauty or fashion. It's not that I don't enjoy it. In fact, I was the teenager who paged through magazines, made endless homemade face masks and practiced updos and french braids on my sister. But with everything else I do, beauty and fashion sometimes falls to the end of my to do list. This was a nice way to get up to speed and update my arsenal.
Nordstrom hosts a show each fall and spring. It's set up like a fashion show, but instead of clothes, the models are showing off their makeup. The show was broken down into three “scenes” — Everyday Beauty, Bold Beauty & Modern Beauty. Hosted by Nordstrom's Beauty Director Julianne De'Chaump, most (or maybe all?) of the brands that have counters at Nordy's participate in one of the three scenes (ps- Julianna looks a LOT like Stephanie Pratt!)
Skincare
Philosophy Oxygen Peel
Silly me, I've been missing out, I've been using simple face washes and lotions, when there are in-home technological solutions for skincare! There was the Clarisonic, which is this cleaning device that's supposed to “gently and effectively remove dirt and oil, and prepare your skin to better absorb moisturizers and serums.” It seemed pretty cool! Then they showed their new Opal System, which is for your eyes. Simply load your favorite eye serum (the device is not product-specific) and it will apply the serum with “more than 7,500 sonic micro massages to instantly hydrate, smooth and brighten the eye area.” Sounds awesome!! The other thing that caught my eye were the oxygen masks by Philosophy, and not just because the model came out with a mask on her face! As the mere mention of oxygen peels, the audience around me was a flutter with comments like “I love those” and “Oh I do that!” Why haven't I tried these?
Mascara, mascara, mascara!
It seemed like eyelashes were one of the main topics at the event. From mascara to false eyelashes, every brand has a solution for your peepers. Perhaps the funniest part of the show (oh, other than the diva show down between Jules & the Lancome rep who was wearing a tiara and sash) was when the MAC demonstrator started impersonating the Wendy Williams “How You Doin?” to emphasize the MAC #7 Lashes.
Diva Red Lips
In the third scene, “Modern Beauty,” a beauty trick as old as lipstick itself was highlighted: sexy red lips. The models were dressed in flamenco-like outfits, with hair slicked back. They even danced up the runway with matador capes! Sexy for sure.
Makeover for moi!
After the show, there was literally a MAD STAMPEDE down one level to the beauty department. You could schedule makeovers for yourself in advance. We were scheduled for Bobbi Brown makeovers. I ended up really enjoying mine, and splurged on some shadow and eye cream. Afterwards, my friends kept complimenting the gel eyeliner; I should have bought that too, but it has to be applied by brush and that was a little daunting so I held off. Maybe I'll try it soon.
Left: Makeup artist Deanna did my makeover, which everyone loved! BTW isn't she gorgeous? she couldn be a model herself! Right: My friend Danielle discusses with a Bobbi specialist prior to her makeover
Good times @ King of Prussia Mall!!
