October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a global movement dedicated to increasing public knowledge and promoting early detection of breast cancer. Each year it is a powerful reminder of the importance of regular screenings, regular self-exams and when to say something to your doctor, which is very significant when it comes to treatment and outcomes. This month brings the community together in an effort to save lives and work towards more research, support for survivors and education to reduce the stigma around breast health. Get involved with Bucks County's breast cancer awareness efforts this October.

Women fighting breast cancer
  • Know your risk factors: Look into any family history of breast cancer, or genetic factors that could put you at higher risk.
  • Perform regular self-exams: It's best to conduct monthly breast exams. Pay close attention to any changes or lumps. Don't wait if you feel something.
  • Schedule regular mammograms: For women aged 40 or older, schedule your annual mammograms and discuss with your doctor the right frequency for you.
  • Maintain a healthy lifestyle: Eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly and limit alcohol consumption.
  • Know what symptoms to look for: Common breast cancer symptoms include lumps, changes in breast shape and nipple discharge.
  • Stay informed: Keep up with the latest research, treatments and recommendations.
