There are few things in life that I have come to enjoy more than summer nights, cold beer, my Philadelphia Phillies, and good tunes.  I have had the pleasure of enjoying these personal favorites quite often.  Friday night, I decided to test out the Doylestown scene; I wanted to find a place where these passions could lie.  Now, I must admit that I have not made the short travel from Richboro into “D-Town” very often.  To me, it has always been that place that you think about later on and you say to yourself, “Oh man, we should have gone to Doylestown this weekend.”  When I have found myself in this situation, I have always tried to rectify my decision with poor excuses.  “I don’t really know the area” or “I’m not sure what kind of scene it is” are typical.  Well, there are no more excuses from me.  I could not have asked for anything else after Puck in Doylestown brought all those passions together all at once.

I knew that I wanted to go somewhere that would have good food at a good price.  I also knew that live music is fun.  This intricate fun finding system that I have developed lead me straight to Puck.  I arrived around 715 shortly after Roy Oswalt took the mound in his Phillies debut.  I was very excited to see a crowded (but not over crowded) outdoor bar/restaurant waiting for me to sit in it.  I did.  That excitement waned, however, when there was no sign of my beloved Phils.  “Not so fast!” the Puck patio called out to me.  On the side of the building hangs a glorious projection screen sporting our reigning National League Champions.  At this moment, I knew it was time to order a beer.  Riverhorse Special Ale was my drink of choice for the night.  I am a huge microbrew fan so this was a very pleasant surprise.

Settled in and ready to enjoy my night, I poured over the menu looking for just the right meal.  Three different flavors of pulled pork sandwich, one pound of wings with four different flavors, grilled tuna steak, slider samplers—it all called to me, and it all called for under ten bucks!  Unsure of what to choose, I let my server choose.  With so many awesome options, I was surprised that she steered me towards the Angus burger.  I’m glad that I trusted her.  Perfectly cooked, juicy, and one of the best burger buns I’ve had in a long time.  I’ll let the food tell its own story when you go there.

After filling up on the patio, I headed inside to sit back and catch some music.  Local bands with local flavor, that’s what I love!  Radio airplay and multiregional notoriety are not foreign concepts to these musicians, but that’s not why they do it.  No.  These musical talents play for the right reasons.  Puck offers the bands and the audience a real personal vibe; this isn’t your stand-and-cram venue.  This is a chill out, have a drink, and show your love venue.  Don’t think that means they keep the decibels to a minimum though.

I almost forgot to mention–they are dog friendly, too.  So, I can definitely say with confidence that Puck does it right, and they have officially made a D-Town fan out of me.  Phillies, beer, summer nights, and local jams—the only complaint I have to take up is with Roy Oswalt!
