On any given Friday night, you are a lucky duck if you can find an open seat at the ample bar at Bowman's Tavern. From the constant stream of live music, to the complimentary popcorn, to the large & varied menu, Bowman's Tavern has become a favorite local watering hole for residents of Upper Makefield and Solebury.
Over the years, the establishment that is now known as Bowman's Tavern has operated under a myriad of different names. Most recently, Bowman's was previously known as Revolutions Tavern. With the launch of Bowman's in recent years has struck a successful chord. The combination of the fun piano bar and variety of menu items has the locals coming back again and again.
The look and feel of Bowman's Tavern is…a hair dated (not gonna lie). As I understand it, the interior is largely identical from it's previous life under a different name. It's quite spacious, with a very large bar area (with room for the piano of course!), a spacious dining room, and even 1 small private room for diners looking for some privacy. I recently had dinner in the private room with a group of friends and enjoyed that seclusion very much for catching up.
Every time we go to Bowman's my husband orders the weiner schnitzel. For those who aren't familiar with this German fave, it's lightly breaded veal cutlet with a lemon-caper sauce. Though I have not had authentic German schnitzel, my husband has had it in Germany several times and is always pleasantly surprised that he can enjoy this specialty dish so close to home.
I was on a detox cleanse the last time I went to Bowman's, and I'm proud to report I stuck to my guns, despite the yummy temptations! Bowman's has an awesome array of salads, so I was able to find something I was allowed to eat, and have some variety too! The have 6-8 choices, and you can add a plethora of proteins on top, from salmon, to chicken, to scallops. I will say, I was more enthusiastic about the salads I've had at prior dinners there. They usually serve your salad in a plentiful bowl, whereas this past time it came on what seemed like a smaller side plate. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt; perhaps since it was a busy night they simply ran our of the salad bowls. However the small plate made it difficult to eat the salad without making a mess.
Although I was detoxing, my friend ordered the calamari. The waitress assured us that they were top-notch, and she was not lying. My friend said they were deliciously crispy. The portion size was pretty large too.
The menu is quite extensive, and there is something for everyone. In the past, I remember really enjoying some of the seafood specials they offer.
All in all, we enjoyed our Friday night at Bowman's because it was good food in very close proximity, with some great entertainment!
