Bucks Happening at Ringing Rocks

This past weekend, BH ventured to Tinicum Township to check out Ringing Rocks County Park.  Equipped with a cooler full of beverages, bagged lunches, and a couple of hammers, we were ready to make the trek across the ringing rocks that have made this park so popular.

Why the hammer, you ask?  Beyond the main grounds lies a field of boulders that, when hit with hammers, resonate a beautiful tone.  Get enough people with enough hammers and you could create some pretty sweet music.  Consider this field to be a giant xylophone, with each rock ringing its own specific tone.

After creating some sweet tunes, we thought that was the end of our trip.  While we traversed the rocks, however, we stumbled onto a trail that was equally intriguing as the ringing rocks.  Challenging enough for the average hiker, yet family friendly, the rocky adventure continued, this time downhill.  Cliffs, boulders, and broken down trees that have been worn down by the elements offer an obstacle course that is just as visually stimulating as it is physically demanding.  Take a break wherever you’d like and enjoy some of the natural beauty, especially after a heavy rainfall; the cliffs turn into beautiful rushing waterfalls that provide refreshment in the summer heat.

Families, couples, and geologists alike would be inspired by the phenomenon that is Ringing Rocks Park.  Don’t forget to enjoy the trip there and back; Route 32 North/River Road provides some beautiful riverside scenery, quaint colonial houses (many for sale), and local eateries.  After your adventure, keep the fun going with a stop along the river.  Grab your tubes and step into the Delaware for some post hike relaxation!

The 128 acre Ringing Rocks Park is located in Upper Black Eddy, PA.  The park remains open until sunset.
