It was just another Friday night out when as I was standing at the bar – it happened. A boy bought me a drink. He ordered, I ordered, he says, “Just put it on my card,” to the bartender and Voila! Free glass of wine! I couldn’t believe it! Not only does this not happen too often when I go out in Bucks County, but it happened so fast!

Okay, maybe it was the slightly revealing LBD or the fact that I complimented his Mario shirt (I know, but I like Mario!), but I know what it really was. It was the “end of summer.”

It’s well known by now that Labor Day is the unofficial harbinger of fall and while I love summer and will terribly miss the 85, even 90-degree weather, there are some positive things about the start of Fall, especially for a single gal such as myself.

  1. The boys are back in town! – Those fortunate enough to have a summer weekend retreat will no longer be retreating to those retreats. In other words, the Jersey Shore boys will be bringing their fist pumps back to Bucks. And on that note, more eye candy!  If there are cuties out there, their lady is most likely nearby, foiling all plans of approach. Fall brings the single guys back.
  2. The bars will be interesting again. Yes, it is rather nice to actually be able to get a drink at the bar quickly, but the bars are just kind of lame when there aren’t many people filling every corner of the place. Crowds can be annoying, but they also make things a lot more entertaining.
  3. Free drinks! Look, they’re not spending their money on gas for weekend getaways anymore, leaving plenty of cash left to spend on the cool girl waiting at the bar beside them in a little black dress, who clearly thought their Mario shirt was cool. Score?
  4. More snuggling? A guy friend once told me, “He’ll be ready for a relationship in the winter because, you know, summer’s over.” Really??? I had no idea guys developed relationships based on seasonal changes. In any case, maybe he had a point. Summer implies fun and carefree as well as fleeting. Perhaps the fact that winter is coming will make the boys more apt to follow through in hopes of having someone to cuddle with in the cold months? Either that or I’m really stretching it.
  5. Cute date options. Jumping in piles of leaves, carving a jack-o-lantern, getting a bit closer in a haunted house…there is more to do than the typical dinner, movie, & drinks dating routine.

So, while I may be mourning the end of summer and cute dresses with no stockings, there are still a few perks fall’s inevitable arrival will bring to the dating scene in Bucks County.

Here’s to Fall! Oh, and nice Mario shirt. 😉
