You can have an amazing summer with an empty pocket. With camps, enrichments and swimming in the summer your pocketbook could be really light. Of course there are amazing free options provided by the community such as parks, and libraries, but sometimes there is even more, you have a $100 day absolutely free if you plan ahead.

Take a look at some of the freebies and cheapies we’ve found.

Go to museums for free – In some cities the local library carries passes which can be checked out to use at local museums and attractions. We have checked out free passes to sculpture gardens, Museums and zoos. You can call your library and ask them if they have free passes, if they don’t ask if they know of a library that does. In our case, the local library doesn’t carry passes but a different one in the same system does carry the passes. We call to reserve them the day of our scheduled outing and pick them up on the way. If your library doesn’t offer free passes check with your city or township recreation office for discounts.

Free Bowling – That’s right kids can bowl free by registering at kidsbowlfree.com. Each child registered can get two free games of bowling per day. When you go to the website just check for bowling alleys which participate in your area and if you see one nearby you know you can have a great summer bowling as much as you like. Shoe rental may be required unless you have designated bowling shoes.

Kids on Wheels – It’s not just bowling that’s free. Kids can go skating too by registering at kidsskatefree.com. This site offers a list arranged by location, find a skating rink near you and click in it to see if they accept passes and the times for which those passes are valid. Equipment rental may be required.

A quiet meal – Uno’s Pizzeria and Grille offers kids eat free on Tuesday nights, with the purchase of at least one adult meal. This is a good enough deal all by itself, but at our Uno’s they make it even better. They also have a craft station for the kids, which is staffed by an employee. The kids play and do crafts with the staff member, within sight of the parents. My husband and I have become regular Tuesday night fixtures enjoying nearly 20 minutes of conversation and each other’s company while the kids play and create with the other kids.

Go to the movies almost for free – Regal Cinemas is doing $1 movies all summer long. For nine straight weeks on Tuesdays and Wednesdays they will be playing kid friendly summer movies, from popular cartoons like Home and Despicable Me 2 to live action like The Goosebumps Movie and Pan. Before you head out check the website at Regal and deal sites like Retailmenot.com for additional deals on popcorn and snacks.

Bucks County freebies from the Library – Many of the libraries in the Bucks County Free Library system offer free museum and attraction passes, like the Free Library of Solebury and New Hope and the Warminster Township Library. The Doylestown Branch does not offer any museum passes but does allow checkouts of items like special baking pans, games and educational electronics. There is a station in the library which displays Playaway Launchpads, at the station parents and children can select a pad loaded with age appropriate educational games and take them home for up to a week.
