The 134-acre Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve is home to a collection of 800 native plant species. With five and a half miles of trails, you can choose to venture out or stick close to the visitor center. In spring the Virginia bluebells bloom along Parry Trail. In the summer months, birds and butterflies flock to the vibrantly colored meadows. The New Pond is a tranquil environment, filled with lotus flowers and chirping frogs in the spring and summer, but it can be enjoyed in any season. The Moss Garden in Penn’s Woods and the historic Stone Bridge can also serve as a perfect backdrop for any time of year. By calling ahead you can also arrange a photography session after hours.
The Preserve is open every day, except Tuesdays, depending on the time of year, 9am – 5pm.
Tickets are $12 per person. Professional photography permits are $100 per hour.

2024 Happenings List Winner: Historic Spot

If your intended is a lover of architecture and history, they will have much to admire at Fonthill Castle in Doylestown. Archeologist, architect, and ceramicist Henry Mercer built Fonthill in the early 1900s to house his collection of prints and tiles. The structure was an early example of reinforced concrete. Mercer’s design mixed Medieval, Gothic, and Byzantine architectural styles.
With stunning sights indoors and outside the castle, you have plenty of options for the flawless proposal. Get down on one knee in front of the gorgeous castle, or explore the grounds to find unique sites like the pond behind the castle and the tree-lined Sycamore Lane. Preserved and operated by the Bucks County Historical Society, Fonthill is open every day, except Mondays,10am to 5pm.
Tickets are $20 per person. Professional photography permits for the exterior are $50 for one hour and $100 for two hours.
