According to Statistica, December is the most popular month of the year to get engaged. In fact, 19% of engagements occur during the final month of the year. While this chilly month is a favorite for popping the question, the winter season typically isn't as popular for weddings. But there are actually plenty of reasons that a winter wedding in Bucks County can be particularly beautiful! Here are a few reasons to consider getting married while the snowflakes are falling and some tips for walking (down the aisle) in a winter wonderland.

The Upside of a Winter Wedding

Although people get married all year ‘round, when you think about weddings, frosty festivities don’t immediately come to mind.

The possibilities are endless for a Winter wedding, in this part of the country that rivals any for scenic beauty. Covered barns, bridges that span the Delaware River, landscape and historic buildings that offer second to none photo opportunities, are beckoning your wedding party. Imagine pictures taken as you gaze out of a frost covered window or snuggled by a blazing fireplace.

You and your beloved are unique, like no other couple ever was or ever will be, so you want your special day to reflect that.

What are some of your individual and shared favorite winter time memories? Perhaps drinking hot chocolate or apple cider, eating home-made cookies and singing holiday songs. Incorporate those memories into your reception, as a non-alcoholic and spiked beverage bar could include those heart -warming drinks and your guests could take home sweet treats as favors.

Outdoor Winter Weddings Are More Enticing Than You Might Think

Although standing outside in chilly temperatures may not be your cup of tea (or hot toddy), when you and your guests are bundled up, you could enjoy a unique setting for the ceremony. Be sure to encourage them to be prepared for the climate. Have hot beverages at the ready when you come inside.

Hardier comfort foods, such as rich soups, baked brie, a potato bar, pumpkin and apples could be part of your reception menu.

Imagine decorative touches that include candles which illuminate the room and reflect the love-light between you, adding a nice touch of beribboned garlands of evergreen, embellished with pine bough branches. Velvety and jewel toned fabrics on the tables, along with twinkle lights, can turn your reception into a fairy land. Small silver bells to be rung when the guests entice you to kiss, could replace the traditional clinking on the glasses.

Do You Want to Build a Snowman?

How about crafting snow people who resemble the two of you outside the wedding venue? You and your wedding party could do that (weather permitting, of course) after the rehearsal.

Other reasons to marry from late December through mid-March include more budget friendly options. Since this is considered off-season, vendors may offer their products and services at a lower price. There is also likely to be greater availability of dates for your ceremony and reception.

Music to Warm Your Heart

Not your typical wedding music, but consider adding the Mamas and Papas song California Dreamin’ (on such a winter’s day) and Hazy Shade of Winter by Simon and Garfunkel to the wedding standards that you select for your reception.

Wrapped in Warmth

As you walk down the aisle, your wedding attire can dazzle and delight with winter fashions that might include a cape with faux fur or a cascade of sequins that resemble icicles. Depending on the genre of the wedding (rustic chic or formal), the groom could be decked out in plaid, flannel, silk or tweed. The palate of colors for the attendants may range from simple and elegant black and white to vibrant reds and deep forest green. Center pieces, bouquets and boutonnières comprised of seasonal flowers include: Amaryllis, Anemone, Camellias, Casablanca Lilies, Forget-me-nots, French Tulips, Gardenias, Holly, Jasmine, Orchids, Mini Gerberas, Narcissus Paper Whites, Poinsettias and Roses.

While They’re in Town

If you have guests visiting, they may want to stop by the Lambertville- New Hope Winter Festival, where they can enjoy food, friends, music, family activities and ice sculptures. Peddlers Village in Lahaska is a winter wonderland, that includes whimsically decorated gingerbread houses and tree illumination.
