Proposed PARK(ing) Day Pop-Up Park will transform Donaldson Street into a greener, people-friendly Pocket Park in the heart of Doylestown, September 15-17, 2017. Design by Baldev Lamba. Sketch by Kali Smalley.
Everyone is invited to the Free Opening Ceremony on Sept 15, 2017 at Noon to this year’s Pop Up Park that will transform Donaldson Street into a passeggiata, a pedestrian ally as a gathering place for people, which will be full of plants and seating, and will feature story times, music and other free events.
The goal of this project is to engage and celebrate pedestrians through a place created for people, instead of cars, to “park.” The Pop Up is in honor of a worldwide event known as PARK(ing) Day. Its mission is to call attention to the need for more urban open space, to spark discussions about how public space is created and allocated, and to improve the quality of our human habitat – at least for a short time.
The temporary park in Doylestown will involve volunteer designers, artists, and residents, and is supported by the borough, local businesses, civic organizations and Temple University Ambler. This year’s park builds on the success of our 2015 Pop-Up Park in front of the County Theater, and the 2016 Pop-Up Park at the Starbucks Parking Lot.
“This is the third year for this event in Doylestown,” said Event Chair Baldev Lamba. “Last year’s Pop-Up Park in front of the Starbucks was a hit for the whole community. This year the outpouring of encouragement for yet another Pop Up, and offers of help from the community shows that the Doylestown community sees the value of promoting a greener vision for our town.”
Everyone is welcome to the opening ceremony on Friday, September 15 at noon, and is invited to become a supporter for this wonderful community event. To donate please visit: https://www.gofundme.com/doylestown-parking-day-2017
