It's time to dust off your green gear, March 17th is nearly here! St. Paddy's began as a religious feast day in the 17th century to commemorate St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, but has since evolved into a day of merriment with a variety of festivals and events the world over. St. Patrick's Day is a day to celebrate Irish culture with parades, special foods, music, dancing, and lots and lots of green! What would St. Patrick’s Day be without a festive parade showcasing the green, the art and the pride of the Irish? This Bucks County tradition stretches back to 1989!

Starting at 10:30 a.m. on March 16th, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade will feature more than 2,000 participants—including pipes, dancers, mummers, and local marching bands. After passing through the streets of Bucks County, the parade will conclude at 1:30 p.m at the Levittown American baseball fields on New Falls Road.

During the 9th Annual Newtown Irish festival, the Green Parrot Restaurant Pub & Patio will be at the heart of the celebrations, featuring live entertainment and Irish dishes for five days!

Wednesday, March 13th and Thursday, March 14th
Seamus & CJ will perform in the pub from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Friday, March 15th
Seamus & CJ will be playing in the restaurant at 12 p.m. followed by Seamus Kelleher from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
There will be a DJ from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Saturday, March 16th
Irish breakfast starts at 9 a.m. (pub opens at 8 a.m.) to get some food in your belly before a weekend of fun and drinking. There will be entertainment all day long, spread throughout the dining room, pub, patio and under the tent. Highlights include Ray Coleman (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.), Keep the Change (3 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and Jamison/Joe Conklin at 6 p.m. For the kids, there will be face painting (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and balloon twisting and caricature painting from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Sunday, March 17th
Start St. Patrick's Day with a hearty Irish breakfast at 9 a.m. (pub opens at 8 a.m.), and then stick around for entertainment all day long. Ray Coleman performs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by Seamus Kelleher from 2 to 6 and then Bright Kelly from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Under the tent, there's Go Go Gadget at 1 p.m. and Jimi Milligan Band at 6 p.m. For the kids, there will be face painting (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and balloon twisting and caricature painting from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wristbands can be purchased at the door for $10 each for Saturday and Sunday depending on capacity.

Bucks Live! presents Larry Kirwan, leader of the Irish rock group Black 47 and host of Celtic Crush on SiriusXM, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Bucks County Community College in Newtown. Kirwan will be joined by another Black 47 alumnus, piper/fiddler/flautist/vocalist Andrew Sharp. The duo will revisit many of the Back 47 songs that have become favorites, including Funky Ceili and Livin’ in America. They’ll get the crowd to its feet with some traditional Irish tunes and new original music along with songs from Kirwan's musical theatre career, including Hard Times (before an expected Fall 19 Broadway debut). Tickets are free for Bucks students and only $20 for general admission. VIP tickets include a preshow reception with hors d'oeuvres and drinks (21+) for $30. Purchase tickets here.

After you’ve feasted on the finest Irish dishes, why not infuse yourself with the Irish spirit through the Glengarry Bhoys. Channeling their Celtic roots, the Glengarry Bhoys fuse Rock and Celtic styles in a way that excite and delight any audience.

Held on Saturday, March 16, the fundraiser show will support the Celtic Cultural Alliance with $5 from each ticket donated to CCA. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., and the show starts at 8 p.m.

Tickets sell for $25 and $35, depending on available seating. Purchasing a ticket in-person will save concert-goers a $6.50 processing fee!

The annual Newtown Shamrock Shuffle 5k brings together runners and St. Patrick’s Day’s pride. The event begins bright and early at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 16. Zipping through the streets, runners and onlookers may appreciate the pageantry all along Sycamore, Jefferson, and Durham Road. At the race’s finish, runners will receive a custom bib, a finisher medal and shirt, as well as an all-access wristband to the festivals at Green Parrot’s St. Patrick’s Day party.
