Things to Do

Make the day special with some activities you can do at home, nearby or even virtually if you don't live nearby (or you're still practicing social distancing.)

  • Breakfast in bed. (This isn't just for Moms!)
  • Have a picnic in your backyard.
  • Have the kids make a special Father's Day craft. (Pinterest is FULL of ideas!)
  • If you're still social distancing from Dads/Grandpops, set up a video chat date.
  • Hit a round of golf together. (Find some places that are open HERE.)
  • The day before, secretly give everyone in the house small pieces of paper or sticky notes. Ask them to write down things they love about Dad. Before he wakes up on Father's Day, display them in a place that's prominent in the house.
  • Chalk the walk! Get creative with special Father's Day chalk drawings or messages. (This is a great one if you live near your dad, but you're keeping a safe distance.)
  • Spend time outside together. Our 2020 Summer Outside Fun Guide has a bunch of ideas!
  • Plan a scavenger hunt that will take Dad around the house before he finds his gift. Here's a link to a free printable for one from the website thedatingdivas.com.
  • Do a puzzle or play a game as a family.
  • Watch a movie – either one of Dad's favorites or something he's been wanting to see. Or you could even go with the Dad theme and pick a movie that celebrates the lengths Dads will go for their kids. (Think Mrs. Doubtfire, Finding Nemo, Father of the Bride, Mr. Mom, Daddy's Home, etc.) This could also be an activity to do from afar if you make use of a tool like the new Netflix Party extension on Google Chrome.
  • Go out for ice cream! You'll find a list of suggestions in our 2020 Summer Food & Drink Guide.
