On Friday April 26th, step into the 200 year agricultural history of Bucks County at the Thompson-Neely House in Washington Crossing Historic Park. The 18th century farmhouse, which was actually used as hospital to care for the sick and wounded soldiers of the Continental army during their encampment here in the winter of 1776, will host their annual Colonial Sheep Shearing event from 9:00am to 3:00pm.
Live sheep will be shorn of their winter wool coats, and visitors will get to then try their hand at the many steps it takes to turn their fleece into clothing. Learn about how wool was cleaned, dyed, carded, spun and woven into fabric in the 18th century.
Kids will also get to participate in games children played in colonial times as well as historic military drills. This fun and educational program is open to the general public, home-schoolers and students in public, parochial and private schools. Admission is $8.00 each for adults and children aged 4 years and older. Children under 4 are free.
To register, call 215-493-4076 x 210. Parking is free and this event is held rain or shine.
