Great events are about more than just exceptional food – they're about creating memorable experiences from beginning to end. Based in Kennett Square, Gia Bella Catering has built its reputation on exactly that, serving clients throughout southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, northern Maryland, and the Jersey Shore with customized, full-service catering for events of every size. With more than 15 years of hospitality experience and a passion for bringing people together, Gia Bella goes beyond the menu by offering professional chefs, servers, bartenders, and event staffing, making them a true hospitality partner dedicated to helping every celebration run seamlessly. Their goal isn't simply to cater an event—it's to become a trusted hospitality partner who helps bring each client's vision to life.

IT'S ALL IN THE DETAILS

While guests often remember a beautifully plated meal or a stunning grazing table, what they don't see is everything happening behind the scenes. Preparing for a large-scale event begins weeks in advance with staffing coordination, logistics, timelines and detailed planning. Every ingredient is carefully prepped, every station meticulously organized, and every member of the team knows exactly where they need to be.

Whether managing nine simultaneous event tents at the Radnor Hunt Races or serving more than 2,300 guests in a single week, Gia Bella has developed processes that allow every event to feel calm, organized, and effortless. “The goal,” they explain, “is that guests never see the machine. They just see beautiful food arriving hot, on time, all night.”

FROM BACKYARD DINNERS TO GRAND CELEBRATIONS

One of Gia Bella's greatest strengths is versatility. The same culinary team capable of executing large weddings and community events can transform a private home into an elegant dining experience for ten. Anniversary dinners, milestone birthdays, holiday gatherings, and private chef experiences have become some of the company's favorite events because they allow hosts to truly enjoy their own celebrations.

Rather than starting with a standard menu, Gia Bella starts with a conversation. They want to understand the occasion, the guests, and what kind of experience the host hopes to create. Every menu is customized to fit the event, while dietary accommodations—including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options—are thoughtfully incorporated from the beginning, ensuring every guest enjoys the same quality dining experience.

HOSPITALITY GOES BEYOND THE FOOD

If you were to ask Gia Bella what people most often underestimate about catering, the answer has very little to do with cooking. Exceptional hospitality is built on countless details guests seldom notice. The power, rentals, staffing, timelines, transportation, coordination between vendors, and the ability to anticipate needs before anyone has to ask all happen quietly behind the scenes.

Anyone can deliver good food. Creating an event that feels completely effortless requires an entirely different level of preparation and hospitality. That's what the team refers to as the Gia Bella Standard—executing every detail so flawlessly that guests simply enjoy the experience without ever seeing what it took to make it happen.

Their hospitality-first approach has also led to partnerships with venues, specialty markets, event planners, and businesses looking for a trusted culinary partner rather than a one-time vendor.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR GIA BELLA CATERING

When speaking with the Gia Bella team about what's next, their response was,  “A lot. We’re growing the team and expanding through partnerships — that’s the model. Instead of just booking one-off events, we’re becoming the catering partner behind other businesses: local specialty markets that want to offer catering without building a kitchen, venues that want a trusted operator running their food program, and planners who need a caterer they never have to worry about.”

For Gia Bella Catering, success isn't measured by the number of meals served—it's measured by the relationships built along the way. Their mission has always been to create experiences guests remember long after the last plate has been cleared, while becoming the trusted hospitality partner families, businesses, and communities return to year after year.

THE STORY BEHIND GIA BELLA

The owner, Jules Shortt, grew up in a family restaurant and was a staple behind the front counter before he was old enough to even see over it. The hospitality industry raised him, taught him everything he knows and he fell in love with the grind. Jules and his wife, Jen Shortt, welcomed their daughter, Gia in 2017 and turned their focus on full time catering to build a legacy for this newly formed family. The name Gia Bella came from the combo of baby Gia and their beloved first Bernese Mountain Dog Bella.
