It's officially been 1 month since I started the Hot Yoga challenge. Over 20 sweaty classes later, I am officially hooked and excited to continue my practice well beyond this challenge. Over the past month, my flexibility has drastically increased; my tummy has started to tighten (just in time to hit the beach!); and perhaps best of all, my chronic migraines decreased in June. That alone is motivation to continue practicing!
Impressed with the results of my personal hot yoga challenge, I wanted to learn more about how practicing at Riverflow has affected others in the community. I found myself reading through dozens of testimonials from locals who credit hot yoga with helping everything from back problems to weight issues to stress to Fibromyalgia.
Below are a few of my favorites:
After a class (at Riverflow Yoga), I usually find clarity that didn't exist before and I take up to the High Rocks Park and enjoy! (Hot Yoga) is a great benefit for my lower back problems and other aches that are chronic. -Mitchell Ebert, President, Noninvasive Medical Office Support
As a senior corporate executive in a very stressful business environment, I took up Yoga a few years back and the results, both physically and mentally, have been nothing short of remarkable. My wife soon joined me in the practice of yoga and it is now a very special common ground that we share. Riverflow Yoga represents all that is good in the world of a small business today. (Riverflow owner) Rhonda Uretzky, as yoga teacher and person, has enriched our lives. – Dennis and Gwen Moriarty
Since I began regular practice at Riverflow Yoga, I have experienced so many huge, healthy changes to my body and mindset. For ten years I have actively struggled with an eating disorder. I have been hospitalized and have seen every kind of specialist and counselor I could access, with few results. I can't be sure what it is about this particular style of yoga, but somehow, with regular practice, it manages to keep those surges of pain and anxiety which have ruled my life for so many years at bay. – Alison Cutts
I am a wife, a mother of four young daughters, a professional, a business owner and a community volunteer. I lead a very active and somewhat hectic life. Recently I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that is characterized by widespread pain and tenderness. Some days the pain makes it difficult to perform daily tasks and activities. A hug from my husband or my child sitting on my lap can prove to be painful. Medications can only help to manage the pain. Part of my therapy is to be active with daily exercise. Having tried many different yoga classes in the past, I have found that hot yoga works the best to control my pain and allow me to go on with my busy life. I was thrilled to have found Rhonda's Riverflow Yoga and now, Riverflow Yoga is an important part of my therapy. This yoga helps to manage my pain and deal with stress better. I am a better person because of Riverflow Yoga. I am healthier, more active, and happier. I can go on with my busy life and be the best person I could be. – Michele Lefchak
I am 67 years young and started my yoga classes (at Riverflow Yoga) with Rhonda approximately 6 weeks ago. Not having taken any yoga previously, I was somewhat skeptical of what I might achieve, having total knee replacement one year ago, rotator cuff surgery 4 years ago, and almost daily suffering with reflux problems. From the moment I walked in the door, Rhonda made me feel comfortable and explained the program I was about to attempt. After the first yoga class I was very sore, but I knew something was happening. Having been an athlete all my life, the soreness didn't bother me. The more yoga classes I attended, the better I felt. I brought a friend who absolutely loved the yoga, and I have convinced my daughter and her friend to join Riverflow Yoga, too. – Rich Mangano
I was a very inflexible runner sidelined with yet another injury. Riverflow hot yoga was able to loosen my tight muscles like nothing else I had tried, and I tried everything, from massage to chiropractors to hot tubs; hot yoga does it! I felt better from my very first hot yoga class and keep reaping the benefits from three – four hot yoga classes per week. I found that it not only made me feel better physically but it works on my mind and soul like nothing I have ever done. – Dawn Lowe
Overall, this challenge showed me that while hot yoga certainly isn't for everyone, it has a profound impact on those who practice, well beyond a weight loss mechanism. Though this is my final post about the Bucks Happening hot yoga challenge, I invite interested readers to reach out to me at info@bucks.happeningmag.com or at our next happy hour event for an update as I continue the practice. Hope to see you in class!
