Bucks County has a new “Bachelor,” Jay Smith. He hails from Levittown in the Cobalt Ridge Section, went to Neshaminy high school and he is a new cast member on Season 16 of The Bachelorette. Bucks Happening had a virtual chat with Jay about what it was like to be on the show and how he tried to fit in references to the Eagles whenever he could.

Jay, thank you so much for joining us today at Bucks Happening. We were so excited to hear there is finally a contestant from Bucks County on the Bachelorette. Can you tell us where you are from in PA?

I grew up in Levittown in the Cobalt Ridge Section. I lived there pretty much all through high school. Once I went off to college I’ve been back and forth.

Anything about your experience in Bucks County help you out on the show?

Maybe in Bucks County we are blue-collar hard workers. I didn’t want to go out there and be somebody that I wasn’t. I tried to give every Philly Eagles Shout out that I could.

How did you get involved in the show?

Me and a buddy when I was living down in Florida. We joked about it and he put in an application for it. A few months later I got a phone call. I thought it was a prank at first. Then I sent in a video. It was a long process.

Where are you going to go in Bucks County now that you are back for the holidays?

That’s tough. One thing, I haven’t found solid pizza out there. My go to place when I come back is I have to go to Amado’s Pizza. One of my favorites, that’s like a must when I come back. Then I’m a big gym person. I used to be a personal trainer and I worked at the NAC, the Newtown Athletic Club. Hopefully, I'm going to try to get back in there soon. I know they are doing a ton of renovations and things like that. That’s the first couple that come to mind, but I know there are more places.

Pizza and exercise?

I have to balance it out!

I’ve heard this season of the Bachelorette had extra drama, we heard you changed the bachelorette mid-season can you talk about that?

Yeah, we started off the season with Clare and we were all super stoked and excited to meet her and get to know her. Then the guys who were there started to see a trend. Not many guys were connecting with her. Then when it broke she had found love with another guy and basically that was it. It was a jolt for everyone at first. We weren’t really that upset. It wasn’t that big of a shock. We all wish her well, there is no ill-will at all and we wish her the best. Nobody knows what’s going to happen next. Hopefully they have a good plan because our journey wasn’t over. Then Tayshia walked into the room and everybody was excited. She looked absolutely gorgeous. It was just a fresh start and it was awesome to be part of that transition.

To wrap up anything you want to say to fans back in Bucks County?

Yeah, I appreciate everyone's support. It doesn’t go unnoticed. And Fly Eagles Fly, even though it’s an ugly year. I’m sticking with my boys.
