As any Bride knows, there are countless decisions that go into planning a wedding. And picking the dress is one of the biggest. Luckily, for Shannon, she found the perfect gown early on in the process. In fact, her stunning gown by Alon Livné was the second dress she tried on! Shannon found her dress at La Belle Mariée Bridal in Langhorne.

According to Shannon, she chose this gown because “The detail on it is out of this world.” (It was actually the inspiration for their wedding cake!) “The biggest reason I chose the Stella dress by Alon Livné is mostly because it is something that I have never seen before, and I love to be a little different!”

The unique detail that Shannon fell in love with is something that many brides claim is their favorite part about the gowns at La Belle Mariée. The French-inspired bridal salon carries a large selection of stunning designer dresses that are difficult to find outside of larger cities like Philadelphia or New York, while also offering a personalized shopping experience from beginning to end.

Where and how did you meet? What were your first impressions of one another?

Colin and I met in high school at The Pennington School. Pennington is a small school so you get to know everyone really quickly. On one of the first few days of freshman year, I was walking up the stairs to class in Old Main, when apparently, I caught Colin’s attention. He said when he saw me, he turned to his friend and asked “who is that girl?” and thought to himself that one day we would be together. Well he wasn’t wrong!

Colin left halfway through high school to play Junior Hockey in Omaha, Nebraska but even with the distance we remained good friends, and when he would come home for break or an event, our friend group always got together. Throughout college we always kept in touch, we were both D1 athletes so how we had a lot in common. Colin played hockey at the University of Vermont and I played soccer at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. One night during freshman year of winter break, a few of us met at a friend's to catch up. This was the first I saw Colin in months, and I couldn’t help but think WOW Colin Markison is so attractive and I really love talking with him.

This was the first time I thought about Colin as more than a friend. But time went by and we were on different schedules with athletics. In our fall semester of junior year before winter break, Colin asked if I would be his date to his eldest sister Adrienne and her now husband of five years, Marcello’s engagement party that his parents were throwing. Of course, I said yes and was beyond excited! Colin picked me up for our “first date” and from then on I knew he was the one I was going to spend the rest of my life with. When Colin was walking up my parents' driveway to the front door, I couldn’t help but smile and a sense of warmth came over me. It’s a feeling I never can explain but I still have to this day every time I look at him. It’s almost like butterflies, but it's far more than that. That short week he was home for winter break, we spent every day together including Christmas. We have been inseparable since that first date five and a half years ago! After college Colin went right in pros. Hockey seasons are long so I move with him where ever it may take us.

What (hobbies) do you enjoy doing together?

Colin is my best friend and I am his. We do literally everything together! Colin is going into his fifth professional season so we move quite often. I would say one of our most favorite “hobbies” is exploring a new restaurant in our home every week for a little date night. We also love walking our Husky and ring bearer, Baio. When we are home in PA and NJ we spend all of our time with our big crazy family!

Tell us about the proposal!

Colin did an absolute amazing job planning a beautiful weekend in New York City without giving it away that he was hiding a really big secret. He isn’t the best at hiding things from me so this was extremely impressive!!

Anytime we travel into the city we hop on a train. When we arrived, we walked to the Lotte Palace Hotel where Colin booked us a room for the night. The Palace is a special place to Colin. Growing up, his family had a holiday tradition where they would stay at the Lotte Palace and see a Broadway show. This was my first time at the Palace, so that was big deal for me. Our room was absolutely gorgeous and overlooked St. Patrick’s Cathedral! We quickly got ready and went to one of our favorite restaurants followed by the Broadway show, The Book of Mormon. We had a night cap at the hotel bar and that was the end of our evening. I did think at one point, he might propose but, he did not. The following morning, we had room service come. There was a beautiful breakfast display that included a large, beautiful flower arrangement, as well as a card addressed to myself. Colin handed me the card and at the end it said, “I just have one more question…” I looked up to find Colin down on one knee. This intimate moment was one for the books that will forever be one of the best days of my life. But the surprises weren't over. Colin arranged a limousine take us “home” but instead we were dropped off at the Hopewell Valley Vineyards, where we were met by our families waiting for us to celebrate! The entire day was unforgettable, I loved that Colin wanted the proposal to be intimate and to later celebrate with our loved ones.

What was your wedding inspiration? Why did you choose your venue, and what kind of “feel” were you both going for?

A friend of mine showed me photos of a wedding she attended at Castle Hill, and I immediately scheduled an appointment the next day. They had one Saturday left for the summer of 2019. It was as if it were meant to be. We fell in love with everything about Castle Hill. The property felt like we were on vacation somewhere in Europe, the food is delicious and the views you really could not beat. As a little girl growing up, I always dreamt about my wedding day. But I really did not have a style or feel at first. I knew I wanted to stick with more neutral colors with my flowers and for the bridal party. Luckily I had an amazing florist, who completely understood my vision even when I had difficulty explaining what I wanted! We were so blessed to have such amazing vendors to work with. Right when we were about to say our vows a fleet of sailboats sailed by behind us as if it we were a sign. The stars were aligned and our day could not have been more perfect.

Tell us more about the wedding details! Your dress, what Colin wore, special touches …

My dress was the second dress I tried on during the entire gown shopping process! I fell in love with the Alon Livné dress for so many reasons. The detail on it is out of this world and it was actually the inspiration for our wedding cake! The biggest reason I chose the Stella dress by Alon Livné is mostly because it is something that I have never seen before, and I love to be a little bit different! The first dress I tried on was also an Alon Livné. It was a ball gown which is what inspired me to want to do the custom tule skirt. I wanted the option to have two different looks. I mean when will I ever get the chance to wear a ball gown again in my life!! Colin gifted me a David Yurman bracelet with a large pearl the day of the wedding. Pearls are lucky he said in one of the 5 letters he wrote me throughout the day. During getting ready, as a “something borrowed” my mother-in-law, Joan handed me a beautiful diamond cabled Yurman bracelet that accompanied the beautiful gift from Colin. Colin wore a custom suit by Soto & Co. out of Austin, TX with Christian Louboutin shoes. His tux was paired with a sentimental pair of David Yurman cuff links from his father, Brian.

Every part of our wedding day from waking up and going on a walk with my dad, to the multiple letters Colin wrote me throughout the day up until I walked down the aisle, to the last song of the night was memorable. Our day couldn’t have been more perfect! But the most unforgettable moment was seeing Colin’s reaction when he saw me as I was getting ready to walk down the aisle.
