One day every year, we take 24 hours to honor those who have and continue to dedicate their lives to protecting our country. This Friday, November 11th, there are a number of ways to celebrate Veteran’s Day in Bucks County. Check out our round-up up Veteran’s Day events below:
Patriotic performance (New Hope): On Friday, November 11th, Veteran’s Day morning, the renowned musician and former member of the U.S. Coastguard member Rio Clemente will perform a medley from his acclaimed 9/11 tribute album entitled America’s Spirit Rediscovered at The Inn at Bowman’s Hill, which has generously donated half of their rooms to a number of veterans as part of a nationwide program.
In addition to the private performance for the guests of The Inn at Bowman’s Hill, Rio Clemente will also be performing together with local impresario Bob Egan on Friday evening at the nearby restaurant, Bowman’s Tavern, located on River Road, just ½ mile from The Inn at Bowman’s Hill. Those interested in attending the Bowman’s Tavern performance can call 215-862-2972 for reservations.
Veteran’s Day Lunch & Presentation at CBFYMCA (Doylestown): Veterans and the community are invited to a Veteran’s Day Presentation. The presentation features speaker Steve L. Cantrell, retired Marine Corp Lieutenant Colonel, along with patriotic music and a booklet featuring the stories of local Veterans. A luncheon will follow for veterans, active duty service personnel and their families. For information contact: Rachel Mauer, rmauer@cbfymca.org
A Toast to our Heroes at the Temperance House (Newtown): The Temperance House would like to make a TOAST to all of our Military Heros in honor of Veteran’s Day. Bring in your Military ID and you will receive a complimentary Drink & Dessert with your Lunch or Dinner Entree Purchase.
Applebee’s Serves Free Meals to Veterans Every Veterans Day (Newtown): Applebee’s generously serves free meals to veterans on Veterans Day, Nov. 11th each year. The nearest Applebee’s is in Newtown. It’s owned by the Rose Group – proud sponsors of the LMT Veterans Square Monument Project.
9/11 Memorial Park (Lower Makefield): Visit the beautiful park in Lower Makefield Township, the official Pennsylvania 9/11 memorial, and reflect on the most recent Veterans’ roles in protecting the country.
5th Annual Veteran’s Day Parade (Lower Makefield): The 5th Annual Lower Makefield Veterans Day Parade will begin at the intersection of Edgewood Road and Long Acre Lane. The parade will feature veterans from various conflicts, the award-winning Pennsbury High School Marching Band, local dignitaries, scout troops, firetrucks, and much more. Our 2011 Parade Marshal is Leon Nowalinski, decorated World War II veteran. The parade will be led by Ambassador Girl Scout Troop 21292 of Lower Makefield/Morrisville, all of whom have attained their girl scout gold award. Refreshments will be available at the end of the parade at Veterans Square Park, and the band will play at the park until the parade is complete. The public is welcome to stay for a wreath-laying and ground-breaking ceremony for Veterans Square Monument. Any veteran is invited to place a shovel in the ground! US Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick and PA State Rep. Steve Santarsiero will participate. Due to the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. Ernest Cimino, who own the property adjacent to Veterans Square on which the historic chapel stands, they will provide free skin cancer screenings to the public, a cause near and dear to their heart. They come from a long line of veterans in their families, and are asking that donations for the cancer screenings be given to the Veterans Square Monument Fund.

Planned monument at Lower Makefield's Veterans Square, located on the corner of Edgewood and Heacock Roads
The LMT veterans committee is a volunteer group comprised of residents and veterans whose mission is to create a timeless monument to honor veterans of the past, present and future within a peaceful park setting where residents can gather with family, friends, and neighbors for public events, or to enjoy the park and monument on their own. Veterans Square is located on the corner of Edgewood and Heacock Roads. Their hope is to create a destination for residents to come reflect and relax, while also educating the children of our community about the sacrifices of our servicemen and women. Their professional design team is comprised of two architects, a landscape architect, and a sculptor who are donating their talents to design the monument. Currently, they are beginning an Engraving Campaign where residents and businesses will have the opportunity to purchase a brick or granite paver and be a part of the monument.
