Well I am personally stoked about this weekend's weather forecast. Not sure how to spend your sunny Saturday? Here are some ideas:
- The Canal- Have you explored the Delaware River Canal? With scenic views up and down Bucks County, you can take a leisurely walk or bike ride (there are several bike rental shops such as Greenway & Pure Energy Cycling). Many lovely Bucks County riverside towns are connected by the canal, so if you are athletic enough you might want to visit a few. If you find that you really love the canal and want to know more, please check out Friends of the Delware Canal.
The Parks of Bucks County- Have a picnic, rent a kayak, explore a hiking trail, ride a horse, play some tennis. There are so many fun activities that the parks in our area have to offer! Check out Core Creek Park (Newtown), Lake Towhee Park (Applebachsville), Peace Valley Park (Doylestown/New Britain), Playwicki Park (Langhorne), Ringing Rocks Park (Upper Black Eddy), Silver Lake Park (Bristol), Tinicum Park (Erwinna) or Tohickon Valley Park (Point Pleasant). Even further, there are a few PA State Parks in Bucks County too: Nockamixon (Quakertown), Ralph Stover (Upper Black Eddy), Tyler (Newtown), Neshaminy (Bensalem) & Delaware Canal (Upper Blck Eddy). Last summer, I had a great time canoeing at Tyler State Park.
- Take a Yoga Class- OHHHHMMM. Get centered and get a workout! Yoga is a great way to do both, and there are so many yoga studios in Bucks. Check out when we went to Riverflow Yoga in Lambertville or did Yoga in Tyler Park. A simple Google search will show that there are too many to list here, but a few we know are Prancing Peacock (Yardley), Yogasphere (Newtown) and Yogaphoria (New Hope).
- Golf at a Bucks County public course- There are plenty of great places to get out and play in our area. I personally think Makefield Highlands (Yardley) is beautiful. There is also Five Ponds (Warminster), The Bucks Club (Jamison), Northampton (Richboro) and Middletown (Langhorne).
- Stroll State Street Newtown or downtown Doylestown- These two Bucks County Towns have so much shopping that I can't remember the last time I saw the inside of a mall! Doylestown has always had the bigger downtown area of the 2, but several budding entrepreneurs have opened up shop in Newtown over the past 2 years. But if you are on the hunt for a bargain, check out Rice's Market, a 30 acre outdoor market.
Antique Shopping- This is one of the things that Bucks County is known for, and brings people here from far and wide. The county is freckled with shops in every town, but there is also an outdoor market just of the river in NJ called the Golden Nugget. A few months ago I checked it out and scored an original edition Scrabble game for pennies!
- Eat out(side)- Maybe activities aren't your thing? Then just grab a bite and a nice refreshment, and watch the world go by at one of the many outdoor eateries in Bucks County. In New Hope there is The Landing, Havana, Lily's on the Canal (Lamberville) & Martine's (Martine's is a personal fave, and they have stunning river views). Doylestown boasts The Freight House, Lily's Gourmet America, Cafe Allessio & Vine and Fig. In Newtown, you can visit LaStalla, Jules Thin Crust & Isaac Newton's. Check out our Restaurant Guide for more.
- Frisbee Golf- You heard me. Think of golf. Ok, now take away the golf balls, the clubs and the holes;
add baskets and frisbees and you've got Disc Golf. It's this hole underground thing. There's even an association devoted to managing the disc golfers of the world, not the PGA but the PDGA. Believe it or not, we have a few courses right here in Bucks County. There's even a league in Tyler Park (starts in 2 weeks!).
- Bucks County Wine Trail- What better way to spend an afternoon than sipping a glass of local wine? Check out our experience with a self guided tour, and tastings typically cost $5-10 (includes 5-10 tastes of wine per winery).
- Stay home- This is what we plan to do this weekend, BBQ! It's finally nice enough to sit on the deck. But why have a regular ho-hum BBQ when there are so many amazing unique fooderies in Bucks County? I cooked up some delicious swordfish steak from Buckingham Seafood (1489 Durham Road, New Hope, PA) last week. The Amish bring us everything fresh and wonderful at their farmer's market in Newtown (indoor, 2150 South Eagle Road Newtown, PA 18940). Check out this list of many, many farms where you can buy fresh. Click here for a list of all of the Farmer's Markets in our area.
Well that should keep you busy for the next month! Have a great weekend!!
